Dassault Aviation
French builder of Rafale fighter jets and Falcon business jets.
Dassault's export protections and backlog give it years of runway, but H1 2026 shows how fast order intake can dry up without new signed contracts.
Dassault Aviation designs and builds combat aircraft, most famously the Rafale fighter jet. It is hard to replace because France controls its own military technology (unlike the US, which blocks exports of its F-35 fighter), giving Dassault unique permission to sell to countries the US will not. The company has 46.6 billion euros in orders waiting to be built, which keeps revenue safe for years. The biggest risk is if India delays signing a large contract for Rafale jets and other countries slow their purchases; that could pressure growth if the order backlog thins out.
Whether the France-Ukraine 16-Rafale roadmap becomes a signed firm order within a year. Tests if announced deals are turning into backlog or evaporating.

- Is Dassault Aviation profitable in 2026?
- Yes. FY2025 net margin was 13.2% with net income of 977 million euros on 7.42 billion euros revenue, up 19% year over year, as of December 31, 2025. H1 2026 net income was 570 million euros, reported July 22, 2026, despite an order slump.
- Who is Dassault Aviation's biggest competitor?
- In fighters, Lockheed Martin's F-35 dominates Western sales but is legally barred by US export rules from Dassault's ITAR-free niche. In business jets, Gulfstream and Bombardier are outselling Falcon, delivering 136 and 86 jets respectively in 2025 versus Dassault's 37.
- Could AI replace Dassault Aviation?
- No. AI from partners like Thales's cortAIx and Harmattan AI is being built into Rafale F5 mission systems, such as the NAMIB electronic-warfare drone flight demo on July 13, 2026, as a feature, not a replacement for Dassault's sovereign design authority or certification data.
- Who owns Dassault Aviation?
- Dassault Aviation trades on Euronext Paris under ticker AM. Groupe Industriel Marcel Dassault, the family holding company, held about 67% of shares as of March 2026, Airbus SE held roughly 10.7%, with the remainder in public free float.
- Is Dassault Aviation hiring or cutting staff in 2026?
- Hiring. The company added 1,579 new hires in 2025, bringing headcount to about 15,024 employees, with roughly 77% based in France, as reported in its FY2025 annual results on March 4, 2026.
- Will India's 114-Rafale order go through?
- Undecided as of mid-2026. India's Defence Acquisition Council approved single-source negotiations for 114 additional Rafale in February 2026, but the contract had not been signed by June 30, 2026, when H1 order intake fell to zero Rafale exports.
