The call

EIS keeps the carriers it already has locked in but is shrinking while it bets an unproven AI product against a stronger rival.

EIS Group makes software that insurance companies use to run their core operations and customer interactions. The company is hard to replace for customers already using it because switching to a different system costs a lot of time and money, but this advantage is fading: Guidewire is a larger competitor already selling similar products to the same customers, and big insurance companies are now buying AI tools directly from tech giants like Amazon and Google instead of relying on EIS. EIS launched its own AI product called CoreGentic in late 2025, but it has not yet proven it can win new customers or keep existing ones, and the company has cut about one in five workers since 2023, which suggests finances are tight. The deciding factor over the next year or two will be whether CoreGentic actually closes new deals and whether EIS can stop shrinking its workforce; if neither happens, the company's owners will likely sell it or find a way to cash out their investment.

Why
01
AI pressure: Palantir, Anthropic, AWS and Google selling AI directly to carriers like AIG. Large carriers now buy AI capability straight from hyperscalers, cutting EIS out of the AI layer it wants to own. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Guidewire Software. Guidewire sits ahead in analyst rankings and keeps winning deals EIS needs to prove CoreGentic can take. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Multi-year core system implementations lock in existing carriers through regulatory and workflow switching costs.
What would change this call
EIS announces named CoreGentic new-logo wins against Guidewire or Duck Creek by early 2027. Would show the AI pivot is converting into real competitive wins, not just a product launch.
Revelio Labs headcount data shows EIS stabilizing or continuing double-digit annual decline through 2027. Continued shrinkage would signal cost-cutting ahead of a possible PE exit rather than growth.
Gartner Magic Quadrant 2026 places EIS as Leader versus Visionary or omits it entirely. Leader status would confirm competitive parity with Guidewire; omission would confirm decline.
Key numbers
  • Headcount down ~22% since 2023, to 853 (Dec 2025)
  • TPG invested over $100M (Jun 2021)
  • Revenue estimated at $292.6M (Jun 2026)
Named risks
  • Headcount decline of ~20-22% since 2023 signals possible cost cutting or restructuring. Severity: high
  • CoreGentic AI pivot (launched Oct 2025) remains commercially unproven with no disclosed new logo wins yet. Severity: high
  • Large carriers insourcing AI directly from hyperscalers/frontier labs (e.g. AIG with Palantir, Anthropic, AWS, Google) erodes core vendor differentiation. Severity: medium
  • TPG's 2021 growth investment aging past four years raises possibility of a PE liquidity event or forced sale. Severity: medium
  • Revenue figures across third party trackers are wildly inconsistent, indicating limited financial transparency. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is EIS Group profitable?
No public profitability figures exist for EIS Group, a private company. Third party revenue estimates range wildly from about $119.3M (Growjo, 2022) to $292.6M (ZoomInfo, 2026), with no audited company disclosure confirming profitability as of mid 2026.
Has EIS Group had layoffs?
Headcount trackers show a steady decline. Revelio Labs reports EIS fell from 1,091 employees in 2023 to 853 by December 2025, roughly a 22 percent drop. Crustdata shows a similar trend, about 8.4 percent year over year decline as of July 2026.
Could AI replace EIS Group's core insurance platform?
Unlikely to fully replace it. EIS's system of record for policy admin, billing, and claims is deeply embedded in regulator-facing carrier operations with multi-year lock-in. But EIS's own CoreGentic AI, launched October 2, 2025, compresses configuration work that once required months of IT effort, cutting into services revenue.
Who is EIS Group's biggest competitor?
Guidewire Software is the dominant incumbent, named a Gartner Magic Quadrant Leader for SaaS P&C Core Platforms in both 2024 and 2025 with 570+ insurers in 43 countries (vendor claimed). Duck Creek Technologies was also named a Leader for the seventh consecutive time in Gartner's 2025 report.
Who owns EIS Group?
EIS Group is privately held. Its most significant recent investor is TPG, which announced a growth investment of more than $100 million in EIS in June 2021 via TPG Tech Adjacencies. Earlier backers include Lightspeed Venture Partners, Investor Growth Capital, and Focus Ventures.
What is EIS Group's flagship AI product?
EIS OneSuite powered by CoreGentic, launched October 2, 2025, embeds agentic AI orchestration, natural language business user controls, and a domain specific EIS Knowledge Base directly into its core insurance platform, aiming to compress configuration work from months to hours.
