Enverus
Enverus runs the data and transaction network that most U.S. energy producers use to trade and analyze deals.
Enverus sits deep inside how U.S. energy companies move data and money, and neither AI labs nor S&P Global have found a way around that yet.
Enverus runs a two-sided marketplace where energy companies buy, sell, and share information. It has amassed 25 years of proprietary court records, land documents, and transaction history that competitors cannot easily recreate, and over 95 percent of U.S. energy producers already use it, making it sticky. S&P Global has deep energy data but lacks Enverus's actual transaction network and producer relationships, while generic AI chatbots cannot replicate proprietary data they do not own. The real test is whether Rystad Energy's new Spektra platform, launching in mid 2026, can win customers away from Enverus by offering a simpler or cheaper alternative, or whether Blackstone (Enverus's new owner as of 2024) raises prices or cuts R&D in ways that open the door to competition.
Blackstone's cost and pricing moves in the 12 months following deal close. Would show whether PE ownership strains product velocity or customer renewals.
Customers naming Rystad or S&P Global Commodity Insights during contract renewal disputes or public statements. Would show incumbents starting to erode Enverus's producer embedding.
- Over $500M in annual recurring revenue
- Blackstone deal value exceeds $6 billion
- 8,000 customers across 50 countries
- Blackstone post-close cost cuts or pricing hikes could push customers toward Rystad in renewals.
- Rystad's Spektra AI-native platform gaining adoption traction post-July 2026 launch.
- Third change of PE ownership since 2018 creates integration and strategy uncertainty.
- Regulatory action forcing unbundling of proprietary transaction data.
| Rival | Direction | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Rystad Energy | contesting | Launched AI-native Spektra platform with AskRystad assistant, around July 2026 (vendor-claimed) |
| S&P Global Commodity Insights | contesting | Deep energy reference data but lacks Enverus's transaction/settlement network as of 2026 |
- Who owns Enverus now?
- Blackstone announced a definitive agreement on August 6, 2025 to acquire Enverus from Hellman & Friedman and Genstar Capital, in a deal the CEO described as exceeding $6 billion. Enverus was previously bought by H&F from Genstar in June 2021 for $4.25 billion including debt.
- Is Enverus profitable?
- Enverus does not publicly disclose profit figures since it is privately held. It reported crossing $500 million in annual recurring revenue on July 12, 2023, driven by power, renewables, ESG and core oil-and-gas products, but net profitability has not been disclosed.
- Could AI replace Enverus?
- Unlikely soon. Enverus holds 2.7 petabytes of proprietary energy data and 350 million+ courthouse/land records plus a transaction network covering 500+ operators and 40,000+ suppliers (as of June 30, 2026), infrastructure a public-data-trained model cannot replicate.
- Who is Enverus's biggest competitor?
- Rystad Energy is the closest AI-native peer, having launched its Spektra platform with an AskRystad AI assistant around July 2026. S&P Global Commodity Insights is also a major rival in energy data depth but lacks Enverus's transaction network.
- What is Enverus ONE?
- Enverus ONE is a governed AI platform launched live on April 7, 2026, pairing frontier AI models with Enverus's proprietary 'Astra' energy model, featuring SOC 2 Type II certification and zero data disclosure to public models.
- How big is Enverus's energy transaction network?
- As of June 30, 2026, Enverus's exchange networks (EnergyLink, OpenInvoice, plus newly acquired PDS assets) support 500+ operators, 40,000+ suppliers, 250,000+ receivers, and more than $500 billion in annual transaction activity.
