The call

AIFU has sold off its AI platform and claims unit, cut most of its staff, and is now looking outside insurance entirely for a new business to run.

Fanhua was a middleman that helped customers buy insurance policies and earned money from commissions. It is being replaced because big insurance companies like Ping An and China Life sell directly to customers, and phone apps like Ant and Tencent now let people buy insurance without ever talking to a broker. The company sold off its AI technology and its claims business, then renamed itself twice in search of something new, so it is no longer even trying to be an insurance broker. What could matter: whether a deal to move into garbage-recycling technology actually closes by the end of 2026, and whether the stock price stays high enough to keep the company listed on the stock market.

Why
01
AI pressure: ZhongAn Online (Ant/Tencent/Ping An-backed direct insurer, AIGC platform live since 2023). AI-driven direct insurance platforms let buyers skip human brokers, hitting the commission model AIFU depends on. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Ping An Insurance and China Life Insurance. Captive giant agency networks keep pulling premium volume as AIFU's outlets and headcount shrink year over year. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. A remaining life insurance distribution book and cash from asset sales keep it running, with nothing stopping further erosion.

Questions people ask
Is Fanhua Inc. (AIFU) profitable in 2026?
No. FY2025 net loss attributable to shareholders was RMB 2,275.4 million (about $325.4 million), versus net income of RMB 455.0 million in FY2024, driven by large credit-loss and asset-impairment provisions, per results reported as of 2026-05-22.
Could AI replace Fanhua's insurance brokerage business?
Its core commission-based brokerage model is directly exposed: peer ZhongAn launched an AIGC insurance platform in 2023, and Fanhua itself sold its own AI platform, RONS Technology/Du Xiaobao, to BGM Group in December 2024, leaving no proprietary AI asset of its own.
Who owns Fanhua Inc. or AIFU Inc. now?
AIFU Inc. (formerly Fanhua Inc., then AIX Inc.) is Nasdaq-listed under ticker AIFU as of the October 2024 ticker change, with no single controlling owner confirmed in primary filings; it moved from ADS to direct Class A share listing in 2025.
Who is Fanhua/AIFU's biggest competitor?
ZhongAn Online P&C Insurance and Waterdrop Inc. are the closest direct-insurer peers, both outperforming Fanhua on cost control and valuation in 2021-2022; captive giants Ping An Insurance and China Life also dominate the underlying market Fanhua brokers into.
Will AIFU Inc. be delisted from Nasdaq?
Uncertain but at risk. The company got a Nasdaq bid-price deficiency notice in February 2025, regained compliance by June 2025, then did a 1-for-20 reverse split in June 2026, while Nasdaq's stricter low-price delisting rule took effect January 19, 2026.
What does AIFU Inc. actually do now?
A shrunk insurance agency where life insurance made up 92.6% of FY2025 net revenues of RMB 556.6 million, plus a June 11, 2026 non-binding MOU to acquire Peakleap Ventures, an industrial-AI solid-waste recycling company, signaling a pivot away from insurance.
