The call

First Digital's FDUSD grew on borrowed Binance shelf space and is shrinking now that Binance moved its promotion elsewhere.

First Digital created FDUSD, a digital currency designed to hold a steady $1 value, and grew it partly because Binance (the world's biggest crypto exchange) promoted it heavily for free. When Binance stopped those free promotions in early 2026 and started pushing its own stablecoin called USD1 instead, FDUSD's trading volume collapsed by 87% in a single month. First Digital now competes against Tether (the market leader), Circle, and new stablecoins backed by traditional banks or financial companies, with no real advantage left. The company's survival depends on whether it can rebuild trust after its coin briefly lost its $1 value in April 2025, and whether Binance's promotional shift continues hurting its business.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. No AI product competes for stablecoin float; the pressure here is exchange distribution, not algorithms. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Binance (redirecting promotion to USD1). Binance ended FDUSD fee waivers and delisted margin pairs in January 2026, and FDUSD volume fell 86.7% the next month. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Its Hong Kong trust license still lets holders redeem FDUSD for real dollars, keeping the token from collapsing entirely.
What would change this call
Further FDUSD trading pair delistings or fee changes on Binance. Would show Binance continuing to withdraw distribution support from FDUSD.
USD1 market cap and Binance stablecoin share versus FDUSD's over the next year. Would show whether USD1 keeps absorbing the volume FDUSD lost.
Confirmed SPAC listing filing or Singapore Gulf Bank/Quantus.fi/MetaComp volume disclosures. Would show whether First Digital secures distribution independent of Binance.

Questions people ask
Is First Digital (FDUSD) profitable?
First Digital does not publicly disclose FDUSD-specific revenue or profitability figures. What is known is that FDUSD's market cap collapsed from a $4.4 billion peak in April 2024 to roughly $346 million by July 2026, a 92% decline, suggesting shrinking reserve-yield economics rather than growth.
Could AI replace First Digital's stablecoin business?
Unlikely directly. Stablecoin issuance is regulatory and custody work, a Hong Kong trust license and bankruptcy-remote reserve structure, that AI doesn't automate. First Digital's CEO has instead framed FDUSD around AI agents transacting with stablecoins ('Finance District'), a marketing narrative as of February 2026, not a shipped product.
Who owns First Digital?
First Digital is a private company; First Digital Group is incorporated in Gibraltar with Hong Kong operating subsidiaries FD121 Limited (stablecoin issuer) and First Digital Trust Limited (custodian). Its last disclosed funding was a Series A on May 30, 2022 totaling roughly $25.15 million.
Who is First Digital's biggest competitor?
Tether (USDT) dominates with about 59% of total stablecoin market share as of July 2026. More directly threatening is World Liberty Financial's USD1, which Binance now promotes instead of FDUSD and holds roughly 87% of, after crossing $4-5 billion market cap within a year of its March 2025 launch.
Is FDUSD losing market share?
Yes. FDUSD's market cap fell 92% from a $4.4 billion peak in April 2024 to about $346-347 million by July 2026. Binance ended zero-fee FDUSD promotions and delisted margin pairs in January 2026, causing an 86.7% trading volume collapse the following month.
Will First Digital go public via SPAC?
As of mid-2026, industry reporting states First Digital is pursuing a SPAC listing, and Binance Academy references a 'planned US public listing,' but no confirmed merger partner or terms had been disclosed in primary filings as of July 2026. Status remains unconfirmed.
