The call

Infobip still routes traffic at massive scale, but SMS commoditization, hyperscaler competition, and unresolved losses leave it running hard to stand still.

Infobip is a company that helps other businesses send text messages, phone calls, and video to their customers. It has real relationships with phone carriers and knows how to handle regulations around messaging, which took 20 years to build. But SMS messaging is becoming a cheap commodity (like email), and at the same time, giant tech companies like Amazon, Google, and Meta have built their own messaging tools that do similar things and can undercut prices. The company is also spending heavily on new AI tools to help customers manage conversations, so whether these new products can make customers pay more per year will determine if Infobip can stay profitable or keeps losing money.

Why
01
AI pressure: AWS End User Messaging, Meta's AI tools on WhatsApp Business Platform. AI-native messaging tools from hyperscalers and Meta let brands route traffic directly, squeezing Infobip's SMS-API margins. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and Meta's direct messaging APIs. Hyperscalers and Meta now sell comparable messaging APIs directly to enterprises, cutting out the middle layer Infobip occupies. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. 800+ direct carrier connections and two decades of compliance and routing infrastructure across 190+ countries.
What would change this call
Infobip reports EBIT profitability or continued losses in FY2025/2026 results. Shows whether AI-orchestration tools are offsetting SMS commoditization or margin erosion is structural.
Infobip announces a fresh equity round or IPO at a valuation above the 2020 ~$1B mark. Would show investors believe growth has translated into higher enterprise value, not just revenue.
Public disclosure of a large enterprise customer moving messaging volume direct to AWS, Azure, or Meta. Would confirm hyperscaler/Meta competition is actively taking share, not just theoretical.

Questions people ask
Is Infobip profitable in 2024?
No. Infobip posted a FY2024 net loss of 134.2 million euros and negative EBIT of 33.6 million euros, according to Craft.co's company profile data, despite revenue estimated near 1.9 billion euros for the year.
Who owns Infobip?
Infobip is privately held. One Equity Partners made a 200 million dollar Series A investment announced July 30, 2020, valuing the company above 1 billion dollars and making it Croatia's first unicorn. No new equity round has been disclosed since.
Could AI replace Infobip's core business?
Partially. Gartner's 2026 Magic Quadrant analysis (cited May 2026) flags that legacy SMS API revenue faces rapid commoditization, but Infobip's 800+ direct carrier connections and compliance infrastructure are harder for AI or hyperscalers to replicate outright.
Who is Infobip's biggest competitor?
Twilio, which Gartner ranks highest for Ability to Execute in its 2025 and 2026 CPaaS Magic Quadrants. Sinch, Vonage, and Proximus Global also hold Leader status alongside Infobip as of the 2026 edition, per CX Foundation, May 27, 2026.
Is Infobip laying off employees?
Headcount is roughly flat to slightly declining, not a mass layoff. Revelio Labs data (June 2026) shows about 4,000 employees as of December 2025, down 4.9 percent from 4,204 in 2023.
Is Infobip planning an IPO?
No confirmed plans as of mid-2026. Infobip has been a unicorn since its 2020 Series A but has raised only debt since then, including a 520 million dollar direct lending facility in July 2025 led by BlackRock and Blue Owl funds.
