The call

InnoGames keeps its old titles profitable while its newer games and its place in MTG's restructured lineup remain unproven.

InnoGames makes online strategy games that players have stuck with for over 20 years, like Forge of Empires and Tribal Wars, generating steady cash. These games are hard to replace because millions of players have invested time and money into their accounts and communities over decades, which creates real loyalty. However, InnoGames is fully owned by a larger parent company (MTG), so players and investors cannot buy stock in it directly, and the parent company is restructuring its game division, which means the studio's future depends on whether MTG decides to keep InnoGames as a growth business or squeeze it for cash while focusing on new titles like Heroes of History that have yet to prove themselves.

Why
01
AI pressure: Generative AI game-cloning tools. Cheap AI-built city-builder clones could chip at new players, but decade-old communities in Forge of Empires and Tribal Wars are hard to copy. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: MTG's own portfolio reshuffle (Plarium, PlaySimple). MTG's Midcore District groups InnoGames with Plarium and Hutch; a PlaySimple IPO push in H2 2026 could pull investment focus away. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Multi-year player communities and social ties in evergreen titles like Forge of Empires and Tribal Wars, which are costly to rebuild elsewhere.

Questions people ask
Is InnoGames profitable?
InnoGames does not disclose standalone profit figures. Its last public margin data is from 2016: revenue of 130m euros, up 25% YoY, with about 20% EBITDA margin. No standalone InnoGames financials have been reported since, as MTG folded it into group reporting after 2017 consolidation.
Who owns InnoGames?
InnoGames is majority owned by Swedish-listed Modern Times Group (MTG). MTG bought 21% in October 2016, raised to 51% in May 2017, then 68% in December 2020, and the founders exchanged their remaining stake for MTG shares in June 2022, ending independent ownership.
Could AI replace InnoGames?
InnoGames uses AI vendor Scenario for concept art and icon generation, claiming about 50% faster asset production as of March 2026 (vendor-claimed). Its director of game engineering says AI is used to drive growth, not cost cuts, and its decade-old live-service communities like Tribal Wars are not AI-replicable.
Who is InnoGames' biggest competitor?
Fellow Hamburg publisher Goodgame Studios, owned by Stillfront, is InnoGames' closest peer; Goodgame's Empire franchise topped 1 billion euros lifetime revenue in December 2022 (vendor-claimed) with about 270 employees as of 2024, competing directly in browser city-building strategy games.
What is InnoGames' revenue?
InnoGames' last publicly cited annual revenue figure is over 220 million euros in 2020. In July 2025 the company announced it had crossed 2 billion euros in cumulative lifetime revenue since its 2007 founding, per its own disclosure.
Is InnoGames growing or shrinking?
Legacy titles like Forge of Empires and Tribal Wars remain stable revenue generators, but new launches Heroes of History (2024) and Cozy Coast (December 2025) are unproven, while Lost Survivors was taken offline in July 2025, showing a mixed growth picture.
