The call

JCET sits inside the wall US export rules built around Chinese chipmaking, collecting AI-driven packaging demand while margins stay thin and rivals Tongfu and Huatian race the same capex cycle.

JCET packages and tests computer chips for customers worldwide, especially advanced AI chips that need fancy wrapping. It is hard to replace because packaging advanced chips requires billions in equipment and years of know-how, and US rules currently block American and other foreign packagers from serving Chinese customers, which shields JCET. However, the company makes thin profits, competes with other Chinese packagers rushing to build new factories, and its stock price has already tripled in anticipation of these advantages, leaving little room for good news. The one thing that could blow this up: if the US government officially blacklists JCET, it would lose access to American customers and equipment, turning a protected position into a trapped one.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI accelerator demand is filling JCET's advanced-packaging lines, not displacing them; it's a customer wave, not a predator. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: TSMC and Samsung Foundry building their own advanced packaging (CoWoS, SoIC) in-house. Both foundries now package their own AI chips, squeezing OSAT margins across the industry, JCET included. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. US export controls keep ASE and Amkor out of China's advanced-node customer base, leaving JCET as the default domestic packager, backed by state owner China Resources.
What would change this call
US BIS adds JCET to the Entity List. Would cut foreign equipment or customer access and break the export-control moat.
JCET reports two straight quarters of revenue decline. Would show domestic OSAT price war from Tongfu and Huatian is eroding its position.
August 21, 2026 earnings versus guided +102% H1 profit growth. A miss would signal the priced-in growth story is cracking.
Key numbers
  • FY2025 revenue RMB 38.87B, up 8.1% YoY (2025-12-31)
  • Advanced packaging RMB 27B, ~70% of revenue (2025-12-31)
  • Stock up 147-183% YTD on packaging capex news (2026-06-25)
Named risks
  • Potential US BIS Entity List designation could sever foreign equipment and customer access. Severity: high
  • Domestic OSAT price war with Tongfu and Huatian pressuring already thin ~4% margins. Severity: medium
  • Stock up 147-183% YTD by June 2026 leaves little room for an earnings miss. Severity: medium
  • RMB7.8B Shanghai Lingang plant could face delay or cost overrun before H2 2028 Phase I target. Severity: medium
  • TSMC and Samsung insourcing advanced packaging (CoWoS, SoIC) structurally squeezes OSAT economics. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is JCET Group profitable in 2026?
Yes. JCET posted Q1 2026 net profit of RMB290 million, up 42.7% year-over-year, on revenue of RMB9.17 billion, and guided to up to a 102% rise in H1 2026 profit as of July 24, 2026, following FY2025 net profit of RMB1.57 billion.
Who owns JCET Group?
China Resources Microelectronics, part of the state-owned China Resources conglomerate, acquired a 22.5% stake in JCET for about $1.6 billion (RMB 11.66 billion) in March 2024, becoming its controlling shareholder, effectively making JCET a state-linked Chinese company.
Who is JCET Group's biggest competitor?
Globally, ASE Technology of Taiwan (25.7% OSAT market share in 2025 per Gartner) and Amkor Technology of the US rank ahead of JCET. Domestically, Tongfu Microelectronics and Huatian Technology are racing to build the same advanced-packaging capacity, with Huatian announcing a RMB3 billion Nanjing expansion in 2026.
Could AI replace JCET Group's business?
No. JCET's core work is physical wafer bonding, packaging, and testing, which AI software cannot perform. Instead, AI accelerator demand is driving the business: TSMC's CoWoS advanced-packaging lead times hit 52-78 weeks as of July 28, 2026, making packaging capacity a bottleneck JCET profits from.
Is JCET Group on the US Entity List?
As of July 2026 there is no confirmed US BIS Entity List designation specifically naming JCET, though the broader environment of US export controls on Chinese semiconductor firms remains a persistent overhang for the company's foreign equipment and customer access.
What is JCET Group building in Shanghai?
JCET announced a RMB7.8 billion (about $1.15 billion) advanced packaging and testing plant in Shanghai's Lingang Special Area on June 24, 2026, targeting automotive-grade and AI/HPC chip packaging, with Phase I completion targeted for H2 2028; subsidiary registration completed July 24, 2026.
