The call

K Health has real hospital contracts and millions of visits, but it sits inside Epic's system rather than owning it, and its funding clock is running out.

K Health built software that uses artificial intelligence to help patients describe their symptoms and assist doctors with paperwork inside hospital computer systems like Epic. The company switched from selling directly to patients to selling through hospitals, which worked at major medical centers like Mayo Clinic and Penn Medicine. However, Epic, the company that owns the hospital computer system K Health depends on, is now building its own AI tools and could simply replace K Health entirely. At the same time, bigger health companies like Teladoc and Amwell are copying K Health's strategy with more money and brand power behind them. The one thing that could save K Health is if its AI proves it helps patients and doctors better than competitors in real-world studies, but early tests show it performs worse than regular doctors, which creates trust problems and regulatory risk.

Why
01
AI pressure: Epic Systems native MyChart AI. Epic can build patient facing AI straight into the EHR record hospitals already run, cutting K Health out as the middle layer. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Epic Systems, Teladoc, Amwell. Epic owns the record K Health plugs into, while Teladoc and Amwell copy the same B2B2C hospital playbook with deeper pockets. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Live embedded contracts with Mass General Brigham, Mayo, Novant and others that took years to install and would be painful to rip out.
What would change this call
Epic ships native patient-facing AI inside MyChart and partner systems adopt it directly. Shows Epic can displace K Health's embedded layer without needing a third party.
K Health announces a new funding round or valuation update after mid-2024's $900M raise. Shows whether investor confidence is rising, flat, or a down-round confirms compressed valuation.
Any of the named health systems (Penn, Mass General Brigham, Mayo, Hartford, Novant) publicly ends or shrinks its K Health contract. Shows partner churn and weakening distribution moat.

Questions people ask
Is K Health profitable?
No. K Health's 2022 revenue was approximately $52 million and the company was not profitable, per Wikipedia's citation of financial disclosures. No audited profitability figures have been publicly released since, and revenue estimates from other sources vary widely.
Who owns K Health?
K Health is privately held and venture-backed with no IPO filing as of mid-2026. Its last confirmed raise was $50M in July 2024 led by Marcelo Claure's Claure Group at a roughly $900M valuation; Hartford HealthCare also holds a disclosed equity stake as of March 2026.
Could Epic replace K Health?
Possibly. Epic, the EHR platform K Health embeds inside, has been shipping native MyChart AI charting and patient-facing chat features since at least February 2026, directly threatening K Health's middleman role within the same partner health systems it depends on.
How does K Health compare to Teladoc?
Teladoc is far larger, holding roughly 13% of the US virtual-care market and ranking #1 (76/100) in an April 2026 AI-visibility leaderboard, while K Health ranked 8th at 31/100, reflecting Teladoc's much bigger consumer footprint and revenue scale.
Is K Health's AI accurate for diagnosis?
A 2022 independent BMJ Open study found K Health's symptom-checker achieved only 36% top-3 diagnostic accuracy versus 82.1% for general practitioners, and 81.3% urgency-advice safety versus 97% for GPs, raising clinical trust concerns still cited in 2026 coverage.
Is K Health raising new funding in 2026?
No new priced round had been confirmed as of July 2026. K Health's last raise was $50M in July 2024 at approximately $900M valuation; over two years have passed without a follow-on round, and a third-party estimator suggests valuation may have compressed.
