The call

Kaspi still owns the payments and shopping habits of Kazakhstan, while its bet on Turkish expansion through Hepsiburada and Rabobank A.Ş. remains unproven and loss-making.

Kaspi.kz runs an integrated payments, lending, and online marketplace system in Kazakhstan that is hard to replace because it has deep hooks into how people buy things online (77 transactions per user per month) and holds a banking license that lets it lend money. Halyk Bank, Kazakhstan's largest bank, has launched its own shopping app with millions of users, though it hasn't yet stolen Kaspi's e-commerce customers. The company is also trying to expand into Turkey by taking over an online marketplace and a bank, but that operation is losing money and proving difficult to run. If Halyk Bank manages to get enough stores to accept its payments and Kaspi's Turkey expansion keeps bleeding money, both pillars of the growth story could fail at once.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. Kaspi uses AI internally for credit scoring and product recommendations rather than facing an AI-native rival in Kazakhstan. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Halyk Bank's Super App. Halyk's app has 8.5M monthly users and is pushing QR payments and merchant acceptance, but hasn't yet taken e-commerce share from Kaspi. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. A banking license plus a payments, lending, and marketplace loop that keeps users transacting 77 times a month.
What would change this call
Halyk Bank merchant-acceptance and QR-payment share in Kazakhstan e-commerce over the next year. Would show whether Halyk is actually pulling merchants and shoppers away from Kaspi.
Hepsiburada profitability and Rabobank A.S. integration results at Kaspi's Q2 2026 earnings (10 Aug 2026). Would show whether the Turkiye expansion is becoming a drain or a working second growth leg.
Any Kazakh regulatory action on Open Banking rules or interchange caps. Would show whether regulators are moving to break Kaspi's integrated payments-lending-marketplace economics.

Questions people ask
Is Kaspi.kz profitable?
Yes. Kaspi.kz is profitable and pays dividends: it recommended a Q1 2026 dividend of KZT 850 per ADS at a 64% payout ratio. Q1 2026 net income was roughly flat YoY as higher funding costs and Hepsiburada integration costs offset 31% consolidated revenue growth to about $2.3B.
Who owns Kaspi.kz and is it public?
Kaspi.kz is publicly traded, listed on Nasdaq (KSPI) since 19 January 2024 after raising over $1B, and also trades on Kazakhstan's KASE exchange. It first IPO'd on the London Stock Exchange in October 2020 at $33.75 per GDR, valuing it near $6.5B.
What is Kaspi.kz's biggest competitor?
Domestically, Halyk Bank, Kazakhstan's largest bank (~35% share), runs a rival Halyk Super App with 8.5M monthly active users as of mid 2026, though it has not yet eroded Kaspi's e-commerce share. In Turkey, Kaspi's Hepsiburada trails market leader Trendyol.
Could AI replace Kaspi.kz?
Unlikely soon. Kaspi's moat rests on a Kazakh banking license, proprietary payments and lending data, and a merchant network reaching 900K merchants as of July 2026, not on software alone. Its own Kasper AI assistant, launched 14 July 2026, sits atop this moat rather than threatening it.
Is Kaspi.kz's Turkey expansion working?
It is unproven and loss-making so far. Kaspi bought 65.41% of Hepsiburada in January 2025 for about $1.127B, later raising its stake to 86.74% by July 2026, and completed a Turkish banking license via Rabobank A.S. on 15 July 2026, but Hepsiburada has been a drag on group profitability.
What is Kaspi.kz's market cap in 2026?
As of 21 July 2026, Kaspi.kz traded at a market capitalization of roughly $16.7 to 17.0 billion on Nasdaq under ticker KSPI, per a Marketbeat filing alert, up from an implied ~$6.5 billion at its October 2020 London IPO.
