The call

Lenskart controls its own stores, factories, and eye-test funnel in a market no big rival has yet matched on price or density.

Lenskart sells glasses and contact lenses through its own stores and eye clinics, using eye tests to drive customer purchases. It is hard to copy right now because it has thousands of stores, its own factories, and a proven system of testing customers and selling to them, but a giant like EssilorLuxottica (which dominates globally) or a well-funded Indian rival like Titan Eye+ could challenge it if they match Lenskart's scale and store density. The one thing that could change everything is whether EssilorLuxottica or another big player actually commits serious money to build a similar network in India, or whether Lenskart's experimental smart glasses brand takes off and opens a new market.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. Lenskart uses AI for virtual try-on and its Gemini-based shopping assistant; no outside AI product is pulling customers away yet. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: EssilorLuxottica. The world's largest eyewear group has not launched a price-matched, store-dense India retail push to challenge Lenskart's network. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Its own factories, 3,327 stores, and a free eye-test funnel that feeds repeat buyers keep costs low and demand flowing in-house.
What would change this call
EssilorLuxottica or a Tata-backed entrant launches a price-matched, dense India retail network. Would show a well-capitalized rival is finally contesting Lenskart's core India model.
India same-store sales growth falls below mid-teens for two consecutive quarters. Would show Lenskart's core India demand engine is slowing.
Owndays or other international unit margins compress as store count scales. Would show international expansion is diluting rather than adding to profitability.

Questions people ask
Is Lenskart profitable in 2026?
Yes. Lenskart's FY26 net profit rose about 68% YoY to roughly ₹500 to 530 crore on revenue of about ₹9,000 crore, for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, per its May 21, 2026 results.
Who owns Lenskart now?
Lenskart Solutions Limited is a public company, listed on NSE and BSE under ticker LENSKART since November 10, 2025, after an IPO that raised about ₹7,278 crore ($821M) valuing it near $8 billion.
Is Lenskart's biggest competitor Titan Eye+?
Titan Eye+ is the closest organized domestic rival but is roughly 8x smaller, with FY25 domestic revenue of about ₹786 crore from 900 stores versus Lenskart's ₹6,652 crore from 2,100+ India stores, as of March 2025.
Could AI replace Lenskart's business?
Unlikely soon. Lenskart's core is physical prescription dispensing and fitting across 3,327 stores (March 2026); AI tools like virtual try-on and its Gemini-powered 'Buddy' assistant support the funnel but do not substitute for regulated in-person eye tests and manufacturing.
Is Lenskart stock overvalued?
Analysts flagged it as stretched, trading at 235x to 285x FY25 earnings as of a March 6, 2026 analysis, even as post-listing market cap reached roughly ₹96,250 crore ($9.6-10B) by July 26, 2026.
Are big investors selling Lenskart shares after the IPO?
Yes. After lock-in expiry, SoftBank sold shares worth about ₹2,873 crore and ADIA agreed to sell a 2.3% stake for about ₹1,944 crore in a June 10, 2026 block deal, both at multi-fold gains on original investments.
