The call

ServiceDesk Plus stays profitable inside a debt-free parent while peers with sharper AI features chip away at its mid-market edges.

ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus helps companies manage IT support tickets and track their computer systems. It is hard to switch away from because it stores years of company data and customer information, and many regulated industries rely on Zoho keeping that data in specific countries. However, two rivals, Freshservice and Jira Service Management, have better user interfaces and are winning new customers in the same mid-market segment where ServiceDesk Plus competes. The one thing that could change this is if ManageEngine's new AI assistant (called Zia Agents) gets rolled out to all customer tiers soon and actually makes the product easier to use than its competitors, but it is currently only available to the largest customers in a few regions.

Why
01
AI pressure: AI-native chat support agents like Unthread and agentic helpdesk bots. Chat-native AI support tools threaten to bypass traditional ticketing UI that SDP is built around. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Freshservice (Freshworks) and Jira Service Management (Atlassian). Both rate higher on G2 and compete directly for the same mid-market ITSM buyers SDP serves. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Deep integration with Zoho's suite, CMDB lock-in, and a profitable parent with no investor pressure to cut corners.
What would change this call
Zia Agents rollout expands beyond Enterprise tier to Professional/Standard and full Canada/China GA. shows whether SDP's AI can close the UX gap with Freshservice and Jira Service Management.
Bloomberry churn/renewal ratio moves from baseline of 39 churns to 274 renewals. rising churn or falling renewals would show customers actually leaving for rivals.
Gartner or Forrester ITSM/ESM report in H2 2026 repositions ManageEngine relative to Freshservice and Jira Service Management. independent analyst view on whether SDP is gaining or losing ground in ratings.
