The call

Matchroom's darts and snooker arms sit outside Zuffa's reach while boxing revenue has slid from £100.9M to £77.6M as UFC-backed competition builds.

Matchroom promotes live sports events and produces media content, with ownership of professional darts (PDC) and snooker tours that competitors cannot easily replicate because the athletes and fans are already locked in. In boxing, however, the company faces real pressure from Zuffa Boxing, which is backed by UFC and run by Dana White, who can offer fighters huge money deals and TV slots on ESPN and DAZN. The one thing that could change everything is if Zuffa Boxing successfully signs a few superstar boxers away from Matchroom (like Anthony Joshua) and wins major TV contracts in the next year or so, which would shrink Matchroom's boxing profits and show investors the business is not as secure as it looks today.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. Live sports promotion and ticketed events aren't replaced by AI tools; broadcast production is the only exposed layer. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Zuffa Boxing (Dana White, UFC-backed). Zuffa Boxing is standing up a rival boxing promotion; it hasn't yet poached Matchroom's marquee names like Anthony Joshua. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Majority ownership of PDC darts and World Snooker Tour plus a DAZN boxing deal locked through 2031.
What would change this call
Zuffa Boxing signs a top Matchroom-tier boxer (e.g. Anthony Joshua level) within 18 months. Would show UFC's boxing venture can pull marquee talent from Matchroom's roster.
DAZN reopens or amends its 2031 boxing deal with Matchroom before term. Would signal the media backbone of Matchroom's boxing business is weakening.
Boxing division revenue/profit for FY2026 reported below FY2024's £77.6M/£9.9M. Would confirm continued erosion of Matchroom's boxing business against rivals.

Questions people ask
Is Matchroom profitable in 2026?
Yes. Matchroom's group profit for FY2025 (year to June 2025) rose to £41.9 million, up from £39.4 million in FY2024, on group revenue of £218.2 million in FY2024, reported April 14, 2026.
Who owns Matchroom?
Matchroom is majority owned and controlled by the Hearn family (founder Barry Hearn, chairman Eddie Hearn). On May 11, 2026, US firm Bruin Capital bought a 15% minority stake, its first-ever outside capital, valuing the group at more than £1 billion.
Is Matchroom losing to UFC's Zuffa Boxing?
Its boxing division is under pressure: profit fell to £9.9 million in FY2025 from £11.4 million in FY2024 amid a public Hearn-Dana White feud (April 2026). Darts and snooker, which Matchroom owns outright via PDC and WST, remain unaffected.
Could AI replace Matchroom?
Unlikely soon. Matchroom's value sits in exclusive long-term athlete contracts, majority ownership of PDC and World Snooker Tour, and broadcaster deals with DAZN and ESPN through 2031, none replicable by AI, which at most touches back-office media production tasks.
Is Matchroom a safe company to join in 2026?
It looks structurally solid: 44 years old, £218.2 million FY2024 revenue, £41.9 million FY2025 profit, and its first outside investment (Bruin Capital, May 11, 2026) funding US expansion, though boxing division profit is declining.
What is Matchroom's biggest competitor?
In boxing, Zuffa Boxing (UFC-backed, led by Dana White) is the named rival, with an active public feud reported April 13, 2026, and boxing profit falling to £9.9 million in FY2025. In darts and snooker, Matchroom owns the governing commercial bodies outright.
