The call

MICIN holds a defensible clinical-trial data business while its more visible telemedicine app faces a bigger, AI-shipping rival with no confirmed new funding since 2018.

MICIN runs Curon, an online doctor-visit app in Japan, and MiROHA, a platform that helps run clinical trials and medical studies. Curon faces serious pressure from Medley, a publicly-traded competitor that just added AI tools to help doctors write faster clinical notes, a feature Curon has not yet built. Medley also has backing from NTT Docomo, Japan's largest phone company, giving it reach and resources MICIN does not. The real question is whether MICIN can prove that its clinical trial platform MiROHA is the real growth engine, or whether the company stays stuck trying to compete in consumer telemedicine where bigger players are moving faster with AI and AI-powered charting.

Why
01
AI pressure: Medley Inc.'s CLINICS platform (AI-assist clinical documentation). Medley shipped an AI charting feature in December 2025 that curon has not matched, closing the gap on clinic-facing workflow. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Medley, Inc. (Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed, co-operates with NTT Docomo) and M3, Inc.. Medley and M3 combine bigger distribution, listed-company capital, and live AI features against curon's scheduling and payment workflow. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. MiROHA's regulated pharma trial data and clinic integrations sit outside Medley's reach and are hard to copy quickly.
What would change this call

MICIN announces a new priced funding round or discloses confirmed cumulative funding total. Clarifies runway and resolves the Caplight vs CBInsights funding discrepancy.
MICIN publicly explains the 2026 rename from 'Online Medical' to 'Medical Experience'. Would confirm whether MICIN is repositioning away from curon toward MiROHA DCT.
Key numbers

Named risks
  • No MICIN customer-facing AI feature shipped as of mid-2026 while Medley already launched one in Dec 2025. Severity: high
  • Core curon booking/questionnaire/payment workflow is structurally commoditizable by generic AI and video tools. Severity: high
  • Conflicting funding totals from aggregators ($85.9M vs $36.82M) leave true cumulative funding and runway unconfirmed. Severity: medium
  • Headcount appears stagnant around 120-130 from 2021 through 2024 with no confirmed newer figure. Severity: medium
  • 2026 rename of business line from Online Medical to Medical Experience signals unresolved internal repositioning. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is MICIN profitable in 2026?
No public revenue or profit figures exist for MICIN as of July 2026. It is private with no financial disclosure. CEO Seigo Hara said in a 2024 interview curon is monetized via a 330 yen per-consultation fee charged to patients, with no clinic fee, but no profit figures were ever disclosed.
Who is MICIN's biggest competitor in telemedicine?
Medley Inc., which is Tokyo Stock Exchange listed and runs CLINICS with NTT Docomo since December 2021. Medley shipped an AI Assist charting feature on CLINICS on December 4, 2025, a customer facing AI capability MICIN's curon still lacked as of mid-2026.
Could AI replace MICIN's curon app?
Curon's booking, questionnaire, video call and payment layer is largely commoditizable by generic AI tools. Rival Medley already shipped an AI Assist documentation feature on CLINICS in December 2025, while no MICIN generative AI customer facing feature was found as of mid-2026.
Who owns MICIN?
MICIN is a private, VC-backed Japanese company founded November 26, 2015 by CEO Seigo Hara. Investors reported across rounds include Mitsubishi Corporation, World Innovation Lab, Sony Innovation Fund, Alfresa Holdings and DG Daiwa Ventures. It remained unlisted (未上場) per its own March 2026 press release.
Has MICIN had layoffs or restructuring?
No layoffs were reported, but MICIN's business line was renamed from Online Medical Business to Medical Experience Business in press boilerplate dated March 4, 2026, signaling an internal repositioning of its core telemedicine unit.
What is MiROHA and is it MICIN's strongest asset?
MiROHA is MICIN's regulated decentralized clinical trial platform, launched April 2020, used by pharma sponsors Amgen, GSK and Bristol Myers Squibb. It reached over 200 institutions and 4,000 patient cases by December 9, 2024, and is considered more defensible than the consumer curon app.
