The call

Moog holds its ground through locked-in certifications and long defense and aerospace programs, with thin margins as the tradeoff for that stability.

Moog manufactures control systems and mechanical parts for fighter jets, commercial airplanes, and spacecraft that are built to strict military and safety standards. Once a plane or weapon system is approved with Moog's part inside, replacing it with a competitor's version would require expensive re-testing and government re-approval, making Moog very hard to dislodge from existing contracts. The company has a record $3.3 billion order backlog, but profits are thin (6.8 percent of revenue versus double that for rivals), and tariffs are squeezing margins further, so the real question is whether this mountain of orders will ever translate into fatter paychecks for shareholders or stay stuck at current thin levels.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. Moog sells certified hardware, not software; AI tools speed up its design and manufacturing rather than replacing its parts. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Collins Aerospace (RTX) and Parker Hannifin. Both already build competing flight-control and actuation systems and bid against Moog for new aircraft and defense platform contracts. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. Sole-source certification on long-running platforms like the 787, F-35, and Artemis makes re-qualifying a rival part slow and costly.

Questions people ask
Is Moog Inc. profitable in 2026?
Yes. Moog posted FY2025 net income of $235M on $3.86-3.9B net sales (ended Sept 27, 2025), a net margin of 6.1-6.8%. FY2026 guidance was raised to $4.3B net sales with adjusted diluted EPS of $10.60 plus or minus $0.20, as of March 28, 2026.
Could AI replace Moog Inc.?
Unlikely. Moog's core is certified precision hardware for aerospace and defense, locked in by FAA and military airworthiness rules and ITAR clearances on programs like the Boeing 787 and F-35. AI is used internally for defect inspection since 2018 and in products like the May 2026 Echodyne C-UAS radar demo, not as a substitute for its manufacturing.
Who is Moog Inc.'s biggest competitor?
Parker Hannifin, Curtiss-Wright, Woodward, Honeywell Aerospace, Safran, and Eaton compete in aerospace and defense actuation, per industry comparisons as of July 2026. None have displaced Moog's existing sole-source positions like the Boeing 787 flight control system or F-35 components.
Who owns Moog Inc.?
Moog Inc. is an independent publicly traded company on the NYSE under two share classes, MOG.A and MOG.B, with no parent owner. Market capitalization was roughly $12.7-13.5B as of July 24, 2026. CEO is Patrick J. Roche, CFO Jennifer Walter, as of March 16, 2026.
Did Moog Inc. have any legal or compliance trouble?
Yes. In October 2024 the SEC announced Moog settled FCPA charges over alleged bribery by its Indian subsidiary Moog Motion Controls Private Limited between 2020 and 2022. Separately, Moog Inc. v. General MRO Aerospace Inc. was filed in January 2026 with a motion to dismiss pending as of February 2026.
What is Moog Inc.'s backlog and does it signal growth?
Moog's 12-month backlog hit a record $3.3B as of March 28, 2026, up 30-33% year over year, driven by defense, space, missile controls, and commercial aerospace demand, according to the company's Q2 FY26 results.
