The call

Neos exists now as Sky's insurance bundle, not an independent business, and its own underwriting partners could build the same product without it.

Sky Protect (formerly Neos) sells home insurance bundled with broadband, TV, and mobile service through its parent company Comcast's UK operations. The real advantage is not the insurance product itself, but access to millions of existing Comcast customers who can add insurance to their bills. The problem is that major UK insurers like Aviva, AXA, and Zurich can do the same bundling without needing Comcast, and Aviva (which used to own Neos) now owns Direct Line too, giving it even more scale. The one thing that matters most is whether Comcast stays committed to the insurance business or downsizes it, since there is no public data on how many customers actually buy it or whether it makes money.

Why
01
AI pressure: Aviva's AI-driven claims and fraud detection tools. Aviva uses AI to cut claims costs and price aggressively, pressuring Sky Protect's panel insurers on margin, not Neos directly. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Aviva (now owns Direct Line, UK's largest home insurer, former Neos owner). Aviva could bundle its own smart-home tech and cut out the panel model that Sky Protect depends on. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Sky's direct billing relationship with millions of broadband and TV customers, plus FCA licensing that blocks pure tech entrants from underwriting.
What would change this call
Sky or Comcast discloses Sky Protect customer counts, revenue, or loss-ratio in earnings or press. Would show the business has scale worth reporting, not just a bundled add-on.
Underwriting panel changes (insurer added, dropped, or replaced) after the Apr 2026 Zurich-AXA-Ageas lineup. Panel churn signals either active investment or quiet deprioritisation by Sky.
Comcast/Sky earnings calls mention insurance portfolio review, leadership departure, or marketing spend cuts for Sky Protect. Would indicate Sky is de-emphasising insurance as a strategic focus.

Questions people ask
Is Neos still an independent company or part of Sky?
Neos Ventures Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sky plc (Comcast), with the deal agreed mid-2021 and closed around April 2022. It now trades primarily as Sky Protect, launched May 2023, and no longer operates as an independent startup.
Is Neos (Sky Protect) profitable?
No standalone financials have been disclosed since Sky's April 2022 acquisition. Neos Ventures now operates as an internal Sky business line rather than a reporting entity, so profitability cannot be independently verified as of 2026.
Could AI replace Neos or Sky Protect?
Unlikely to replace the entity itself: FCA licensing, physical IoT hardware, and underwriting liability keep the category regulated. AI is instead automating claims triage and fraud detection industry-wide, as seen in Aviva's 12 AI fraud-detection models reported March 2026.
Who is Neos's biggest competitor?
Aviva, Neos's own former majority owner (2018-2022), became the UK's dominant home insurer after acquiring Direct Line in July 2025. Aviva also builds AI-driven fraud detection and claims automation that Sky Protect's own panel insurers currently lack in public disclosures.
Who owns Neos insurance?
Sky plc, part of Comcast, owns Neos Ventures Limited outright since closing the acquisition from Aviva around April 2022. Aviva had held majority shareholding in Neos from November 2018 until the Sky deal.
What is Sky Protect's underwriting panel?
Sky Protect launched in May 2023 with Zurich as sole underwriter, then added AXA, and confirmed Ageas joined the panel in April 2026, per Coverager. All three are independent insurers, not proprietary to Neos.
