Omada Health
Omada Health runs digital coaching programs employers pay for to manage diabetes, hypertension, and weight.
Omada is growing fast and turning profitable, but an independent study questioning its clinical edge and cheaper AI-only coaching apps sit right underneath its next contract renewals.
Omada Health helps large employers and insurance companies manage diseases like diabetes and heart disease by providing coaching (partly human, partly AI) to sick employees. The company has built a real business with 2,000+ employer customers and relationships with all three major pharmacy benefit managers, plus a new tie-up with Eli Lilly. But copying this business is not actually hard: Teladoc Health already tried it (buying Livongo for $18.5 billion, then writing off $6.6 billion when it didn't work out), and newer competitors like Lark Health are now offering similar coaching using only AI, which costs less. The biggest threat to Omada's survival is whether its results are actually better than doing nothing. A study by an independent research group in 2024 found that Omada's improvement over control was only marginal, which Omada disputes but which could cause customers to cancel. Watch the next two to four quarters of earnings reports (especially the September investor meeting) to see if customers keep renewing their contracts at high rates despite these questions about whether the service actually works.
A top-5 employer or major PBM drops or shrinks Omada's program within a year. Would confirm efficacy doubts are translating into real customer loss.
Teladoc or a major PBM announces an in-house AI-only chronic-care coaching product. Would show incumbents copying Lark's cheaper model and directly contesting Omada's space.
- FY2025 revenue $260.21M, up 53% YoY
- Q1 2026 revenue $78.05M, members over 1 million
- Market cap ~$1.33B to $1.37B, shares ~$22
- Independent PHTI study found only marginal clinical outcomes versus control, undermining renewal pitch.
- AI-only coaching rivals like Lark Health could compress Omada's human-coach cost premium and margins.
- GLP-1 drug success could shrink demand for behavior-change programs that are Omada's core TAM.
- CEO and CAO insider stock sales in June-July 2026 coincide with contract renewal uncertainty.
- No structural barrier prevents PBMs or Teladoc from in-sourcing coaching and dropping Omada.
| Rival | Direction | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Virta Health | losing to | PHTI's 2024 study found Virta's ketosis outcomes more clinically meaningful than Omada's |
| Lark Health | contesting | AI-only coaching model undercuts Omada's human-coach cost premium, as of 2026 |
| Teladoc Health (Livongo) | contesting | Dormant since $6.6B 2022 writedown but not structurally barred from re-entering, as of 2026 |
| Hinge Health | contesting | Competes directly in Omada's Joint and Muscle Health (MSK) product line |
- Is Omada Health profitable?
- Omada Health reported positive net income in Q4 2025 and positive adjusted EBITDA for full-year 2025, on revenue of $260.21 million (up 53% year-over-year), per its March 5, 2026 earnings release. Profitability is recent, not sustained across multiple years.
- Who are Omada Health's biggest competitors?
- Omada's closest rivals are Livongo (owned by Teladoc Health), Virta Health, Vida Health, Lark Health, and DarioHealth, with Hinge Health competing in its MSK line. A 2024 Peterson Health Technology Institute study found Virta's outcomes more clinically meaningful than Omada's.
- Could AI replace Omada Health's coaches?
- Omada has already automated parts of nutrition coaching with its own AI tools, OmadaSpark (May 2025) and Meal Map (October 2025). Rival Lark Health runs an AI-only coaching model positioned as cheaper, but Omada's PBM contracts and clinical data give it lock-in AI alone can't replicate yet.
- Who owns Omada Health?
- Omada Health went public on Nasdaq (ticker OMDA) on June 6, 2025, at $19 per share, raising $150 million. As of July 2026, insiders including CEO Sean Duffy held roughly 6.4% of shares outstanding; the rest trades publicly.
- Does Omada Health actually work clinically?
- Omada disputes an independent 2024 Peterson Health Technology Institute finding that its behavior-modification programs produced only marginal, not clinically meaningful, A1c reductions versus Virta Health's approach. Omada has since published its 30th peer-reviewed manuscript as of November 2025.
- Is Teladoc a threat to Omada Health?
- Teladoc already tried chronic-care coaching via its $18.5 billion 2020 Livongo acquisition, later written down by $6.6 billion in 2022, and remains dormant in this space as of mid-2026. Omada is not structurally protected if Teladoc re-enters aggressively.
