The call

ProBit Global is closed as of February 26, 2026, ended by unmet MiCA licensing requirements rather than any AI competitor.

ProBit Global was a cryptocurrency exchange that let people trade altcoins (smaller cryptocurrencies). It was not hard to replace because it had no special technology, no exclusive coins, and ranked only 92nd to 97th in trading volume, so bigger exchanges like Binance, Coinbase, and MEXC already offered the same service better. ProBit shut down on February 26, 2026, after failing to meet European Union rules called MiCA, and it was not displaced by artificial intelligence or a smarter competitor, but simply lost the legal right to operate. One thing that could matter going forward is whether users who missed the deadline to withdraw their money (around March 31 to April 1, 2026) will sue the company for lost funds.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. No AI product killed ProBit. It shut down over MiCA licensing gaps and regulatory pressure, not model competition. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Binance, Coinbase, OKX, Bybit, and MiCA-licensed altcoin venues like MEXC and Gate.io. ProBit dropped EU/EEA service Dec 30, 2025 and shut entirely Feb 26, 2026, pushing users to licensed and larger rivals. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. None: no license in any major jurisdiction, no proprietary tech, no lock-in, and the exchange has already closed.
What would change this call
Any lawsuit filed by former ProBit users over permanently forfeited assets after the April 1, 2026 deadline. Would show unresolved legal liability from the shutdown affecting former customers.
South Korean FIU or FSS opening formal proceedings against ProBit's wind-down process. Would show regulatory scrutiny extending beyond the exchange's closure.
Any relaunch or license application by ProBit or its founders in another jurisdiction. Would show an attempt to re-enter the market it exited.

Questions people ask
Is ProBit Global still operating in 2026?
No. ProBit Global announced full service termination effective 08:00 UTC+8 on February 26, 2026, citing a rapidly changing regulatory environment and strategic restructuring. Login was disabled that day, and the exchange no longer operates as of this writing.
Why did ProBit Global shut down?
ProBit cited regulatory pressure and restructuring. It was absent from the EU's ESMA-authorized CASP register as of late 2024 and discontinued EU/EEA service from December 30, 2025 ahead of the July 1, 2026 MiCA compliance deadline, then wound down globally by February 26, 2026.
Can I still get my funds back from ProBit Global?
A Late Asset Return Period ran roughly March 1 to 31, 2026 (some sources say through April 1), requiring completed KYC/AML for manual email-based recovery. After that deadline, unclaimed assets were declared permanently forfeited per ProBit's terms of service, per a January 13, 2026 KuCoin report.
Who founded ProBit Global and are they still involved?
ProBit was co-founded by Hyunsu Do (CEO) and Steve Woo (CTO) in South Korea around 2017-2018. Do left the company in March 2024 while Woo reportedly remained CTO, according to an FXEmpire review dated August 19, 2025.
Who were ProBit Global's biggest competitors?
ProBit competed in the altcoin-listing niche against MEXC, Gate.io, AscendEX and Bibox, per CoinBureau (April 2026). It ranked roughly #92-97 by trading volume, far behind incumbents Binance, Coinbase, OKX, Bybit and Korea's Upbit/Bithumb.
Could AI have saved ProBit Global from shutting down?
No, ProBit's collapse was regulatory, not AI-driven: it lacked a MiCA CASP license and any durable moat (liquidity, data, or licensing edge), so it shut down February 26, 2026 regardless of automation potential in its KYC or matching workflows.
