The call

Qorvo's future now depends on Skyworks closing the merger and finding a place for its people, not on Qorvo standing alone.

Qorvo designs radio frequency chips that go into phones and military radios. The phone chip business is shrinking because Broadcom and Chinese makers like Maxscend are taking customers away, and Qorvo has already cut its workforce almost in half. The defense radio side is harder to replace because the U.S. Department of Defense requires approved suppliers, but that is only a small part of the company. The real question is whether Skyworks will keep Qorvo's business running or fold it into their own operations after the deal closes in late 2026, and how they will treat stock awards for employees who stay.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI datacenter demand for GaN power chips is a small tailwind for defense unit, not a threat to core mobile RF business. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Broadcom. Broadcom already dominates FBAR filters and Apple's premium RF sockets, squeezing Qorvo's largest revenue segment. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. DoD Trusted Source accreditation gives its defense and high power business a regulatory barrier rivals can't easily clear.

Questions people ask
Is Qorvo still an independent company or has it been acquired?
Qorvo signed a definitive merger agreement with Skyworks Solutions on October 28, 2025 to combine into a $22 billion US-based leader. Shareholders of both companies approved the deal in April 2026, and it is expected to close by end of 2026, pending regulatory review.
Is Qorvo profitable in 2026?
Yes. Qorvo reported full fiscal 2026 net income of $339 million, disclosed May 20, 2026 alongside merger-related debt refinancing filings, even as quarterly revenue declined roughly 7 to 8 percent year over year.
Who is Qorvo's biggest competitor?
Broadcom dominates FBAR filter technology and Apple's premium mobile RF content, per Yole Group's October 30, 2025 analysis. Qorvo is also merging with peer Skyworks Solutions, and faces a roughly $175 million annual revenue headwind from Chinese suppliers Maxscend and Vanchip as of May 2026.
Could AI replace Qorvo's engineers or products?
Unlikely for core work: RF chip design and semiconductor manufacturing remain physics-based hardware disciplines requiring fabrication and testing that generative AI cannot substitute wholesale. Qorvo holds DoD Category 1A Trusted Source accreditation and deep GaN/GaAs IP as of 2026, both hard-to-replicate moats.
Who owns Qorvo?
Qorvo is publicly traded on Nasdaq (QRVO) with no parent company, but as of October 28, 2025 it is the target of a definitive merger with Skyworks Solutions; Starboard Value LP, an approximately 8 percent shareholder, signed a voting agreement supporting the deal.
How dependent is Qorvo on Apple?
Apple represented approximately 41 percent of Qorvo's Q1 FY26 revenue (quarter ended June 28, 2025) per an earnings call transcript, with one industry newsletter citing Apple's broader supply chain at 47 percent of total revenue as of December 2025.
