The call

Revenue and Agentforce ARR keep growing while the stock sinks on doubts about whether AI-agent pricing will expand or just replace seat revenue.

Salesforce sells software that helps companies manage customer relationships and sales pipelines. It has stayed on top for 13 years because once a company puts thousands of employees on it, switching costs are high: the data lives there, workflows are built around it, and training people to use something else takes time and money. Microsoft keeps trying to knock Salesforce off with its own CRM bundled into its existing products, but has not succeeded so far. The real threat now is not Microsoft but artificial intelligence agents that can do the work automatically instead of needing one human per license. If AI agents take over these tasks, Salesforce may have to charge per action taken (roughly ten cents) instead of per person per month (one hundred fifty to five hundred fifty dollars), which would slash revenue and profits even though the company itself survives. Watch the September 2026 Agentforce event and late 2027 earnings reports to see whether Salesforce can convert its AI strategy into real growing revenue or whether it just replaces lost seat sales with cheaper AI deals.

Why
01
AI pressure: Generic autonomous AI agents (Claude Code, open-agent frameworks) and per-action pricing. Agents billed per action (~$0.10) could erode $150-550/seat pricing, though Salesforce itself now sells that model via Agentforce Flex Credits. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Microsoft Dynamics 365 bundled with Teams, Azure, and Copilot. Microsoft bundles CRM into its stack at lower incremental cost, but hasn't dislodged Salesforce in over 20 years of trying. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. 150,000+ customers, deep workflow lock-in, proprietary data via Informatica, and 13 straight years as the #1 CRM vendor by IDC.
What would change this call
Salesforce reports two consecutive quarters of net revenue decline in FY27. Would show Flex Credit substitution is actively cannibalizing seat-based revenue.
Q3/Q4 FY27 earnings show Agentforce ARR growth without net revenue retention improvement. Would show AI ARR is backfilling seat erosion rather than expanding revenue.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 discloses net-new Fortune 500 CRM displacement wins in 2026 filings or press. Would show the 20-year non-displacing incumbent has finally started taking large accounts.

Questions people ask
Is Salesforce profitable in 2026?
Yes. For the quarter ended April 30, 2026, Salesforce reported GAAP EPS of $2.42, up 52% year over year, and non-GAAP EPS of $3.88, up 50%, with a 21.1% GAAP and 34.8% non-GAAP operating margin, per its May 27, 2026 earnings release.
Could AI replace Salesforce?
Unlikely near term. Salesforce holds a 25-year workflow and data lock-in across 150,000-plus enterprise customers, but its per-seat pricing faces real pressure from its own Agentforce Flex Credit model, priced around $0.10 per action in some tiers as of mid-2026.

Microsoft Dynamics 365, bundled into Microsoft 365, Teams, and Azure, is the closest scaled rival. It has not displaced Salesforce's CRM leadership despite more than 20 years of competing, as of 2026.

Salesforce, Inc. (NYSE: CRM) is a public company with no controlling parent, co-founded by Marc Benioff in 1999. Its market capitalization was approximately $139.9 billion as of July 20, 2026.
Why did Salesforce stock crash in 2026?
