The call

SiPearl's case rests almost entirely on EU sovereignty rules, since Nvidia's Vera CPU already ships and runs inside SiPearl's own flagship JUPITER system.

SiPearl is building a processor (computer brain) designed specifically for European supercomputers and AI systems, intended to keep Europe independent from American chip makers like Nvidia, AMD, and Intel. It is hard to replace because European governments have promised to buy it for sovereignty reasons and locked in contracts, but this advantage is shaky: Nvidia already shipped a competing chip and put it inside SiPearl's own flagship supercomputer in mid-2026, which undercuts SiPearl's technical case. The one thing that matters most is whether SiPearl actually ships its Rhea1 chip on time at the end of 2026 and whether it performs well enough to justify the expense, because if delays happen or performance disappoints, the only reason left to buy it is politics, not engineering.

Why
01
AI pressure: Nvidia's Vera CPU and Grace/GH200 AI-integrated systems. AI workloads pull buyers toward Nvidia's bundled GPU-CPU stacks already running in JUPITER, weakening Rhea1's technical case beyond sovereignty rules. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Nvidia, AMD, Intel. Nvidia's Vera CPU shipped July 2026 and already powers JUPITER; AMD and Intel keep selling proven CPUs while Rhea1 is still pre-GA. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. EU sovereignty rules bar Nvidia, AMD, and Intel from being certified as the European sovereign CPU, locking in design wins like JUPITER and Alice Recoque regardless of chip performance.
What would change this call
Rhea1 reaches general availability by end of 2026 as targeted, with no further slip into 2027. Shows whether SiPearl's sovereignty moat converts from promised roadmap to shipped product.
SiPearl's ~€200M Series B closes with named investors and confirmed terms disclosed publicly. Shows whether SiPearl has funding to reach commercial production, not just aggregator rumor.
JUPITER supercomputer publishes performance benchmarks after Rhea1 deployment and bring-up. Shows whether Rhea1 is competitive on merit against Nvidia and AMD, not just on EU sovereignty rules.
Key numbers
  • €130M Series A closed, largest in European fabless chips (2025-07-08)
  • ~200 employees vs >1,000-staff target (2026-01)
  • Rhea1: 80-core Arm chip, 61B+ transistors, taped out July 2025 (2025-07-09)
Named risks
  • Rhea1 general availability slips past end-2026 target after already running 5 years late. Severity: high
  • Series B (~EUR 200m) has not been confirmed as closed with disclosed terms as of mid-2026. Severity: medium
  • Nvidia Vera and GH200 already inside JUPITER erode the technical case for Rhea1. Severity: high
  • Heavy dependency on continued EU sovereignty policy and France 2030/EIC funding. Severity: medium
  • Headcount growth (~200) far below prior >1,000-staff target signals execution strain. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is SiPearl profitable in 2026?
No. SiPearl is pre-commercial-revenue as of July 2026, still in chip bring-up and validation with no shipped commercial volumes; its flagship Rhea1 processor only powered on first silicon May 13, 2026, with general availability targeted for end of 2026.
Who owns SiPearl?
SiPearl is privately held, backed by a €130m Series A closed July 8, 2025, with investors including Arm, Atos/Bull, the EIC Fund, France 2030, and Cathay Venture (Taiwan); it is not publicly traded and has no confirmed disclosed valuation.
Could Nvidia replace SiPearl?
Nvidia's Vera CPU shipped mid-July 2026 and Nvidia's GH200 chips already power the initial buildout of JUPITER, SiPearl's flagship supercomputer, eroding SiPearl's technical case even though EU sovereignty rules bar Nvidia from being designated the official European sovereign CPU.
Who is SiPearl's biggest competitor?
Nvidia is the most pressing rival: its Vera CPU shipped mid-July 2026 targeting agentic-AI CPU-GPU orchestration and its GH200 chips already run inside JUPITER, the exascale system SiPearl's Rhea1 is designated to eventually power.
Has SiPearl raised a Series B?
As of July 2025, SiPearl's CEO and CFO said a Series B targeting roughly €200m ($230m) would launch within weeks and close between 2026 and 2028; no primary source has confirmed a closed Series B with disclosed terms as of July 2026.
Is SiPearl's Rhea1 chip ready?
Rhea1 first silicon powered on May 13, 2026, starting a 10-12 week bring-up phase, with general availability now targeted for end of 2026, about five years behind the chip's original 2021 target date.
