The call

Tiki has been squeezed out by Shopee and TikTok Shop, lost its main investors, and shrunk from thousands of staff to about 110 with no new funding since 2022.

Tiki is an online shopping platform based in Vietnam that once competed with Shopee and TikTok Shop but has lost nearly all of its customers. Two much larger rivals, Shopee and TikTok Shop owned by ByteDance, now control 97 percent of the market by controlling what shows up on screens and offering better delivery and payment services. Tiki's own advantages like its delivery network and customer loyalty turned out not to matter when competitors with more money and better technology moved in, and nothing Tiki is working on now suggests it can win back customers or differentiate itself meaningfully.

Why
01
AI pressure: TikTok Shop's Lead Genie AI merchant chatbot. TikTok Shop's AI chatbot helps merchants sell directly inside short videos, pulling shoppers away before they ever open Tiki's app. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Shopee (Sea Ltd) and TikTok Shop (ByteDance). The two now hold 97% of combined GMV; Tiki's share was too small for the latest market report to even list. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. None apparent: no funding since 2022, board investors have exited, and headcount has fallen from 4,000+ to about 110.

Questions people ask
Is Tiki profitable in 2026?
No profitability figures are public, but Tiki's GMV fell 63% year-on-year in H1 2025 and its combined share with Lazada dropped to about 3% by early 2026, making profitability highly unlikely given near-zero market share and no new funding since 2022.
Can Tiki still compete with Shopee and TikTok Shop?
Not effectively. As of April 22, 2025, Shopee and TikTok Shop together held 97% of Vietnam's four-platform e-commerce GMV, and Tiki's share was reportedly too small to even appear in the market report, per VnExpress.
Did VNG exit its investment in Tiki?
Yes. VNG wrote off its entire ~$20 million Tiki investment as a loss, ended the affiliate relationship, and recalled its board representatives in October 2024, retaining only a passive 14.61% residual stake as of February 7, 2025.
Who owns Tiki?
Tiki Global, a Singapore holding entity, owns more than 90% of the operating business. Major historical shareholders include JD.com, which held roughly 25.65% by August 2019, and VNG, whose stake fell to a passive 14.61% by February 2025.
Is it risky to join Tiki right now?
Yes, signals point to decline: website traffic dropped 37% month-over-month in April 2026 to about 454,830 visits, GMV fell 63% year-on-year in H1 2025, and there has been no new funding round reported since 2022.
Could AI replace what Tiki does?
Tiki's rival TikTok Shop launched an AI merchant chatbot, Lead Genie, around December 2, 2025, deepening its algorithmic commerce edge, while no verified AI deployment by Tiki itself has been documented as of 2026.
