The call

The surgical robot company is gone; what remains is a thinly funded imaging startup trying to win shelf space from three much larger incumbents.

Titan Medical built surgical robots but never got FDA approval and couldn't find a buyer, so it merged into Conavi Medical in late 2024. Conavi now sells cardiac imaging technology, but it faces giants like Philips, Abbott, and Boston Scientific that already control how hospitals buy these devices and have far more money and expertise. The company has only about $4.5 million in cash and needs to prove that doctors will actually use its imaging console starting in 2026, but if it cannot secure hospital placements or runs out of money before that, it will likely disappear or need a dramatic rescue.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. No AI product currently threatens or feeds this business; the pressure comes from established medtech imaging rivals, not algorithms. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Philips, Abbott, Boston Scientific. These three already sell intravascular imaging systems inside cath labs where Conavi needs to place its Novasight console. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. A fresh $12 million raise and past Medtronic licensing payments give it cash to attempt a US launch, nothing more.
What would change this call
Novasight 3.0 US commercial launch results in Q3-Q4 2026. Would show whether Conavi can generate real console placements against Philips/Abbott/Boston Scientific.
Conavi's cash balance and any new dilutive financing after the Q3 2026 launch window. Would show whether the company can fund operations without further shareholder dilution.
Any distribution or co-marketing deal announced with a major cath-lab player. Would show whether Conavi is gaining channel access instead of losing ground to incumbents.

Named risks
  • Thin cash runway of $4.5 million as of March 31, 2026 requiring further dilutive financing. Severity: high
  • No genuine commercial product traction; revenue mostly licensing, product revenue declining year over year. Severity: high
  • Legacy surgical robotics business never achieved FDA clearance and was fully discontinued. Severity: medium
  • Successor imaging business faces entrenched incumbents (Philips, Abbott, Boston Scientific) with existing cath-lab distribution. Severity: high
  • History of raise-to-raise financing pattern ($20M April 2025, $12M January 2026) signals ongoing capital dependency. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Does Titan Medical still exist as a surgical robotics company?
No. Titan Medical reverse-merged into Conavi Medical Inc. on October 11, 2024, with a 25:1 share consolidation. The combined entity abandoned surgical robotics entirely and now focuses on Conavi's Novasight Hybrid intravascular imaging system for cardiac procedures, trading as CNVI on TSX Venture Exchange since October 16, 2024.
Is Titan Medical profitable in 2026?
No. The successor entity, Conavi Medical, had only $4.5 million cash as of March 31, 2026, following a $12 million raise closed January 13, 2026. It reported CAD $9.1 million fiscal 2025 revenue, mostly licensing, with quarterly product revenue as low as $63,000 in June 2025.
Did Titan Medical lay off employees?
Yes. In early February 2023, Titan Medical laid off 48 of its 66 employees, a 72% cut leaving 18 staff, after a formal sale process contacting more than 40 potential buyers found no acquirer. Four more senior/executive roles were cut days later, per FierceBiotech, February 10, 2023.
Could AI replace Titan Medical's surgical robot?
The question is moot: Titan's Enos single-port robot never reached FDA clearance and its IDE filing halted during the 2022-2023 crisis. The company pivoted entirely away from robotics via the October 2024 Conavi merger, so there is no active Titan robotics product for AI to threaten or augment.
Who is Titan Medical's biggest competitor?
In legacy surgical robotics, Intuitive Surgical held about 60% global market share in 2024 with 11,395 da Vinci systems installed as of Q1 2026, per RoboticsBiz, June 6, 2026. Titan never launched a product and was displaced before competing. The successor entity now faces Philips, Abbott, and Boston Scientific in cardiac imaging.
Who owns Titan Medical now?
Titan Medical has no controlling parent; it was absorbed via reverse merger into Conavi Medical Inc. on October 11, 2024, with legacy Titan shareholders converted into Conavi shares at a 25:1 ratio. The surviving public company, Conavi Medical Corp., trades as CNVI on TSX Venture Exchange and CNVIF on OTCQB.
