The call

Vanta rode the AI wave to $300M ARR instead of getting eaten by it, but its edge is auditor trust and integrations, not AI.

Vanta helps companies prove they follow security and privacy rules by automatically collecting evidence from their software tools and showing it to auditors. It is hard to replace right now because auditors trust Vanta's reports, the company connects to over 400 other software products, and switching would mean redoing a lot of work. The biggest threat is that general AI assistants like ChatGPT or Claude could eventually do the evidence-gathering part on their own, but auditors still need to accept what the AI finds, and that acceptance could take years. The thing to watch is whether Vanta wins more deals with large companies and government agencies, or whether its rival Drata starts beating it in those bigger sales.

Why
01
AI pressure: Frontier AI agents (Claude, ChatGPT, Google Gemini). Agents can already draft policies and pull evidence, but auditors still want Vanta's workflow and audit trail to sign off. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Drata. Drata is chasing the same enterprise and government deals Vanta needs for its next growth phase. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. Auditors trust its evidence trail, and 400+ integrations plus continuous monitoring make ripping it out costly.
What would change this call
Public announcements of Drata winning FedRAMP or large enterprise compliance contracts over Vanta in 2026. Would show Drata is taking upmarket share from Vanta.
A frontier AI lab (Microsoft, Google, or OpenAI) ships a continuous-compliance monitoring agent accepted by auditors. Would show Vanta's evidence-layer moat is being bypassed by generic AI tools.
Vanta's per-customer ARPU growth stalls or reverses in future funding or press disclosures. Would show AI is commoditizing the compliance evidence layer and eroding pricing power.
Key numbers
  • $300M ARR, tripled in two years (2026-04-29)
  • 16,000+ customers in 58 countries (2026-04-29)
  • $4.15B valuation after $150M Series D (2025-07-23)
Named risks
  • Frontier AI agents could commoditize evidence-gathering and questionnaire automation, eroding Vanta's core value-add. Severity: high
  • Drata's enterprise-segment lead could block Vanta's push into government and FedRAMP/CMMC compliance. Severity: medium
  • Conflicting headcount data (1,000 to 1,900+ across sources in 2026) suggests possible unreported restructuring. Severity: medium
  • No IPO filed as of July 2026 despite CFO hire, leaving liquidity timeline uncertain for employees and investors. Severity: low
  • Anecdotal auditor criticism of evidence quality could undermine trust if it spreads among the auditor community. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is Vanta profitable in 2026?
Public sources do not disclose Vanta's profitability. The company reported hitting $300M in annual recurring revenue by April 2026, tripling ARR in two years, but no net income or profitability figures have been made public as of mid-2026.
Could AI replace Vanta?
Vanta's own AI Agent, launched June 2025, already automates over 80% of security questionnaire responses with a 95% acceptance rate, per Vanta. This partly commoditizes the evidence layer, but auditor-acceptance requirements and 400+ integrations still create friction against generic frontier AI agents replacing Vanta outright.
Who is Vanta's biggest competitor?
Drata is Vanta's closest direct rival. As of February 2026, YipitData spend data showed Drata leading in enterprise customers (45 vs Vanta's 31), while Vanta led mid-market (138 vs 77 customers, about $306K vs $123K average observed spend).
Who owns Vanta?
Vanta is privately held and venture-backed, founded in 2018 by Christina Cacioppo and Erik Goldman. It has raised $504M total, including a $150M Series D in July 2025 at a $4.15B valuation led by Wellington Management, with no IPO filed as of July 2026.
Will Vanta go public soon?
No IPO date or S-1 filing has been confirmed as of July 2026. Vanta hired ex-Calendly and Seismic CFO John McCauley around June 2026, often read as an IPO-readiness signal, but pre-IPO market sites describe any 2026-2027 timeline as speculative.
How much is Vanta worth and how big is its revenue?
Vanta was valued at $4.15B in its July 2025 Series D round. The company reported $300M in annual recurring revenue as of April 2026, up from about $100M in January 2024, with over 16,000 customers across 58 countries.
