The call

A shrinking mid-tier publisher betting an unaudited profit forecast and cost cuts can offset years of revenue decline against much larger studios.

YooZoo makes games for phones and browsers, but its revenue has dropped more than half since 2019 and it has lost money for three years straight. Bigger companies like Tencent and NetEase can copy anything YooZoo makes and do it better because they have more money and people, while new AI tools are making it cheaper for anyone to build games, which removes the one advantage smaller publishers like YooZoo used to have. The real test is whether YooZoo can actually make money again in early 2026 without just cutting jobs, or if profits only look good because the company fired half its workers and has nothing left to shrink.

Why
01
AI pressure: AIGC tools used by Chinese ad-tech and UA vendors. AI art, localization, and ad-creative tools erase the cost edge mid-tier studios like YooZoo used to lean on. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Tencent Games, NetEase, miHoYo. These studios already ship bigger, better-funded titles in YooZoo's exact genres, with no compliance or channel wall stopping them. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Its catalog games and Three-Body Problem film and TV rights still generate cash, but nothing here blocks bigger rivals from copying its playbook.
What would change this call
Release of YooZoo's audited H1 2026 interim report. Shows whether the ¥200-300M profit forecast is real operating growth or one-off cost-cutting.
Any further headcount reduction announced in 2026 or 2027. Would indicate continued contraction rather than a genuine turnaround.
Launch of a Three-Body Problem branded game title. Would show YooZoo converting its IP into gaming revenue rather than ceding it to Netflix.
