Yotpo
Ecommerce reviews and loyalty platform for Shopify and enterprise brands.
Yotpo still holds real review and loyalty data that brands depend on, but Klaviyo is selling into the same accounts and the company hasn't priced new capital since 2021.
Yotpo helps online stores collect and display customer reviews and run loyalty rewards programs, mainly for Shopify merchants. The company built real value by collecting years of review data and integrating tightly with Shopify, but it has shrunk from five product lines to two, sold off its email and SMS business to a competitor called Attentive, and hasn't raised fresh funding in over five years. Now Klaviyo, a bigger email marketing company that already reaches Shopify stores, is launching its own reviews product bundled into its existing tools, making it easier for stores to drop Yotpo and switch to one vendor instead. If Klaviyo wins over enough of Yotpo's mid-market customers in the next year, Yotpo goes from wounded but still valuable to genuinely at risk.
Klaviyo publishes or is reported to have signed marquee Shopify Plus accounts for its Reviews product. Would show Klaviyo directly displacing Yotpo in its flagship enterprise segment.
Yotpo announces a second layoff round or a sale/acquisition process. Would confirm continued retrenchment rather than stabilization post-SMS/Subscriptions exit.
- $230M raised in Series F at $1.4B valuation
- No priced funding round in over 5 years
- 200 layoffs in Aug 2025 tied to AI efficiency
- No priced funding round since March 2021, over 5 years of financing silence.
- Klaviyo shipping bundled Reviews product directly into Yotpo's only remaining core business.
- Customer churn from Email/SMS and Subscriptions shutdowns in 2025.
- Wildly conflicting revenue, valuation and customer-count estimates limit external verification.
- Further headcount contraction plausible after Aug 2025 layoffs and Q4 2025 declines.
| Rival | Direction | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Klaviyo | gaining on | Shipped Klaviyo Reviews Jun 2023, already owns email/SMS layer Yotpo exited by Dec 2025 |
| Bazaarvoice | contesting | Enterprise UGC/reviews incumbent with retailer syndication, sits above Yotpo's mid-market tier |
| Attentive | gaining on | Acquired Yotpo's Email/SMS customer base for tens of millions, Aug 2025 |
| Okendo | contesting | Shopify-native reviews/loyalty rival, vendor-claimed 18,000+ brands as of 2026 |
| Judge.me / Loox | contesting | Lower-cost Shopify-first review apps targeting Yotpo's SMB segment |
- Is Yotpo profitable in 2026?
- No audited figures are public. Third-party estimates conflict wildly, Latka pegs 2024 revenue at $213M while PrivCo says $380M. Yotpo has cut costs via 200 layoffs (Aug 2025) and shut Subscriptions and Email/SMS lines, suggesting cost discipline rather than confirmed profitability.
- Did Yotpo have layoffs?
- Yes. In August 2025 Yotpo laid off about 200 employees, roughly 34% of its global workforce, hitting Israel, Bulgaria, Poland, London, New York and Australia, as it shut down its Email/SMS business and refocused on Reviews and Loyalty.
- Could AI replace Yotpo?
- AI is already replacing the commoditized parts of Yotpo's stack, basic SMS/email tools and review widgets, which is exactly what Yotpo exited in 2025. Its harder-to-replicate asset is its first-party review data dataset and deep Shopify Plus integrations, which resist quick AI replication as of July 2026.
- Who owns Yotpo?
- Yotpo is privately held and venture-backed, founded in 2011 in Israel by CEO Tomer Tagrin and Omri Cohen. Its last priced round was a $230M Series F in March 2021 at a $1.4B valuation, led by Bessemer Venture Partners and Tiger Global. No new priced round has followed since.
- Is Klaviyo a bigger threat to Yotpo than Bazaarvoice?
- Klaviyo is the more active near-term threat: it already owns the email/SMS layer in the Shopify stack and shipped Klaviyo Reviews in June 2023, directly invading Yotpo's remaining core business, while Bazaarvoice remains an enterprise incumbent above Yotpo's mid-market tier.
- What happened to Yotpo's SMS and Email products?
- Yotpo discontinued its Email and SMS marketing tools, selling the customer base to Attentive for a reported 'tens of millions' and referring smaller brands to Omnisend. The business was announced for shutdown in August 2025 and fully closed by December 31, 2025.
