The call

Yunda's profit is bouncing back on industry-wide price discipline, not on winning back the volume share it keeps losing to YTO and STO.

Yunda Express delivers packages across China and is one of the country's largest delivery companies with about 12% of the market. It is hard to start a new delivery company from scratch because you need a government license and thousands of pickup locations, but Yunda faces direct competition from three equally strong rivals (ZTO, YTO, and STO) that have the same advantages. Yunda's profits recently went up, but mainly because the government stepped in to stop price wars rather than because Yunda got better at its job. The key thing to watch is whether Yunda can stop losing customers to competitors over the next few quarters, or whether it keeps sliding toward the back of the pack.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI routing and warehouse automation are tools every Chinese courier uses, not a force eating Yunda's business specifically. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: ZTO Express, YTO Express, STO Express. Yunda's parcel share fell from 14.3% in 2023 to 12.4% in June 2026 while YTO (16.3%) and STO (14.8%) gained ground. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Postal licensing and an already-built national sorting and delivery network keep new entrants out, even as existing peers pull ahead.
What would change this call
Yunda's quarterly parcel-volume share vs YTO (16.3%) and STO (14.8%) in H2 2026 reports. Further drops below 12% would confirm peers are structurally outcompeting Yunda.
Yunda's per-parcel margin trend in H1 2026 full results versus YTO and STO. A persistent margin gap would show profit rebound is industry pricing, not Yunda execution.
Whether China's 'anti-involution' price-fixing discipline holds or a price war resumes in late 2026. A resumed price war would strip away Yunda's main current profit support.

Questions people ask
What is the biggest risk facing Yunda Express?
The biggest risk is losing parcel volume share within China's six-courier oligopoly. In June 2026 Yunda's volume grew just -0.05% year over year while same-industry rivals STO Express and YTO Express posted volume growth above 18%, and Yunda continues to trail STO, YTO, and ZTO Express on growth and profitability within that group.
Is Yunda Express in financial trouble?
Profit is recovering but off a weak base. FY2025 attributable net profit fell 38.79% year over year to RMB1.171 billion (2025-12-31), even as revenue rose 6.04% to RMB51.47 billion, and Q1 2026 net profit jumped 51.66% year over year to RMB487 million (2026-03-31) on price policy support rather than volume growth.
Who are Yunda Express's biggest competitors?
Yunda's closest rivals are STO Express and YTO Express, fellow members of China's six major express operators, both of which grew parcel volume more than 18% in June 2026 versus Yunda's flat reading. ZTO Express outranks Yunda on scale and profitability within the same cohort, while SF Holding competes in a different, more premium delivery segment.
Is Yunda Express at risk from AI?
The AI threat is described as building rather than acute. AI-driven routing and warehouse platforms from Alibaba's Cainiao and JD Logistics squeeze per-parcel margins across the courier network Yunda depends on, though the assessment rates outright AI replacement of Yunda's business as unlikely as of July 2026.
What protects Yunda Express from losing more ground?
Yunda's main shield is its entrenched membership in China's six-courier oligopoly, which together handles roughly 87% of national parcel volume, plus a government price-stabilization push that has lifted per-parcel pricing industry-wide. This has not stopped STO and YTO from growing volume much faster than Yunda through mid-2026.
What should I watch to see if Yunda Express is turning around?
Two dated checkpoints matter: whether Yunda's monthly parcel volume moves off flat or negative territory against STO's and YTO's double-digit growth through Q4 2026, and whether its official H1 2026 results, due by 2026-08-31, land inside the pre-announced 71.15% to 98.57% net profit growth range. Both are verifiable against Yunda's own operating disclosures.
