The call

Zora's creator coin model collapsed after Coinbase called it a failure, leaving a thin pivot to Solana prediction markets with no clear protection left.

Zora started by letting creators issue their own coins through Coinbase's Base network, but that business collapsed in July 2026 when Coinbase essentially shut it down, destroying 99.8% of daily trading volume and crashing the token price 95%. The company then switched to building prediction markets (places where people bet on future events) on the Solana blockchain, but it is competing head-to-head against Polymarket, which already dominates that space and has no real reason to lose market share to a smaller rival. The one thing that could matter is whether Zora can attract enough real users trading prediction markets on their own, or whether they have to raise new money from investors soon, because without either they will keep shrinking.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI isn't what broke this. The failure is a crypto speculation model that lost users, volume, and its main partner. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Coinbase (via Base App). Coinbase's Base app called content coins a failure in July 2026 and pulled distribution and leadership away from Zora. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Zora keeps some crypto native brand recognition and leftover liquidity from its 2022 raise, but little else stands between it and irrelevance.
What would change this call
Attention Markets daily non-paid volume stays above $500K through end of 2026. Would show the Solana pivot is gaining real organic traction, not just promotion.
Zora announces a new equity raise independent of token issuance by Q3 2026. Would show fresh capital and a credible non-speculative business plan.
Coinbase or Base publicly re-engages with Zora's creator-coin products. Would reverse the July 2026 verdict that content coins failed.

Questions people ask
Is Zora profitable in 2026?
No audited revenue is public. Third party estimators guess $0 to $1M revenue. By July 15, 2026 daily platform trading volume had collapsed 99.8 percent to $112,170 from a $63M per day peak in April 2025, showing shrinking, not growing, activity.
Did Coinbase drop Zora?
Yes. On July 13, 2026 Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and Base creator Jesse Pollak publicly said the content coin and creator coin strategy built on Zora had failed, and pivoted Base toward trading, payments, and AI agents instead.
Is the ZORA token crashing?
Yes. ZORA fell about 95 percent from its August 2025 high of $0.147 to roughly $0.0064 to $0.0067 by July 15, 2026, with market cap dropping from a $550M to $800M peak to about $28M to $31M by July 20, 2026.
What is Zora pivoting to after content coins failed?
Zora launched Attention Markets on Solana on February 18, 2026, a Polymarket style product letting users pay 1 SOL to create markets on viral trends. Early volume was thin, around $170,000, against an entrenched incumbent.
Who founded Zora and when?
Zora was founded in 2020 by Jacob Horne, with early collaborators including Slava Kim. It began as an Ethereum NFT protocol and later launched its own Optimism OP Stack Layer 2 network in the second half of 2023.
Could AI replace what Zora does?
Zora's core product is a financial speculation wrapper, not an AI tool, so direct replacement is limited. But its trend-detection layer for Attention Markets overlaps with commodity AI social-listening tools that already analyze virality more cheaply.
