The call

Calendly still makes real money from a workflow millions rely on daily, but free suite bundling and calendar-savvy AI agents are closing in on the exact task it sells.

Calendly lets people share a link so others can book time on their calendar without back-and-forth emails. It is hard to copy because companies already use it and it connects to tools like Salesforce, but Google and Microsoft are now building the same scheduling feature directly into products their customers already pay for, like Gmail and Teams. At the same time, AI assistants like ChatGPT can now look at your calendar and book meetings on your behalf without needing Calendly at all. The one thing that could save Calendly is if its new AI assistant called Callie becomes good enough at handling complicated meeting logistics and keeping control of meeting data to make companies want to keep using it instead of just asking their Google or Microsoft assistant, but if that takes too long, the cheaper or free alternatives may win.

Why
01
AI pressure: ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini agents with calendar API access. Hobbyists already script free calendar agents that negotiate and book meeting times, skipping the booking link entirely. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Google Workspace Appointment Schedule and Microsoft Bookings/Teams. Google and Microsoft ship free native scheduling into suites customers already pay for, and are pushing agentic booking further at events like Build 2026. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Deep enterprise integrations with Salesforce, HubSpot, and SSO/compliance keep paying revenue teams locked in for now.
What would change this call

Calendly announces a new priced funding round or IPO filing. Would break the flat $3B valuation since 2021, signaling renewed investor confidence.
Microsoft Build 2026 agent rollout ships native AI meeting booking in Teams. Would show incumbents absorbing Calendly's core feature directly into paid suites.

Questions people ask
Is Calendly profitable?
Calendly has described itself as profitable and capital-efficient in vendor statements, including its September 2022 Prelude acquisition announcement. Independent financial disclosures are not public since Calendly is privately held, so profitability claims rely on the company's own statements rather than audited figures.
What is Calendly's valuation in 2026?
Calendly's most recently reported valuation remains $3 billion, set in its January 27, 2021 funding round led by OpenView Venture Partners and ICONIQ Capital. As of mid-2026, no new priced round has been reported, meaning the valuation has been flat for over five years.
Could AI replace Calendly?
Calendly's core booking-link workflow is highly exposed: general AI agents like ChatGPT and Claude can already book, cancel, and manage Calendly events via its MCP server (available on all plans as of July 2026), and hobbyists have built free calendar-booking agents using Google APIs since 2025.
Is Calendly laying off employees?
No large-scale layoff announcement has been found, but headcount fell to about 449 employees as of December 2025 per Revelio Labs, down 29% from 632 in 2023, suggesting quiet attrition rather than a publicized layoff event.
Who owns Calendly?
Calendly is privately held and founder-led by Tope Awotona, who founded the company in 2013 in Atlanta and remains CEO. Investors include Accel, Coatue Management, ICONIQ Growth, and Atlanta Ventures, with no IPO filing reported as of 2026.
Who is Calendly's biggest competitor?
Google Workspace's native Appointment Schedule feature and Microsoft's suite-bundled scheduling tools pose the largest structural threat since customers already pay for these platforms. Cal.com, an open-source scheduler, is also cited in third-party reviews as gaining ground with faster feature velocity as of mid-2026.
