The call

Highway holds real broker accounts and blocks real fraud, but Truckstop already leads on the ground and nothing stops it from copying Highway's playbook.

Highway helps freight brokers check whether truck drivers and carriers are legitimate and safe to hire, and makes money doing it reliably. The problem is that Truckstop, a much bigger player that already has relationships with independent truckers and brokers, can do the same thing and is actively building that capability. Highway has locked in about 70 of the top 100 brokers and keeps them as customers, but Truckstop has more truckers using its platform (69% report using it versus 61% for Highway), which gives Truckstop an advantage in data and network power. The thing that could change this is whether Highway's newer load-matching service (TFX) actually attracts and keeps real customers over the next year or two, or whether it just becomes a one-off tool that brokers try once and abandon.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. No AI-native fraud detection rival named yet, but cheaper AI-driven identity checks could undercut Highway's core matching layer on price. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Truckstop (RMIS). RMIS already leads Highway 69% to 61% in trucker-reported usage and keeps shipping competing vetting features with no wall stopping it. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. 1,050+ broker accounts including 70 of the top 100, deep workflow lock-in, and Triumph's payments tie make switching costly.
What would change this call
Next independent trucker-usage survey (post Spring 2026) shows RMIS vs Highway gap widening or narrowing. Whether Truckstop is pulling further ahead or Highway is closing the usage gap.
Transfix, Qued, and Bluewire integrations reported as retained, growing accounts vs one-off embeds within 12 months. Whether Highway's 2026 partnerships convert into durable revenue or stay superficial.
TFX publishes verified two-sided matching volume or broker/carrier retention numbers. Whether Highway's load-matching push actually gains liquidity against DAT and Truckstop.
Key numbers
  • 1,050+ brokers use Highway, 70 of top 100 US brokers (2025-08-19)
  • RMIS 69% vs Highway 61% trucker-reported usage (2026-07-15)
  • Highway blocked 1.45M+ fraud emails in 9mo 2025 (2025-Q3)
Named risks
  • Truckstop/RMIS leads Highway in independent trucker-usage survey (69% vs 61%, Jul 2026). Severity: medium
  • Pending FMCSA rulemaking on MC-number resale and non-domiciled CDLs could reshape the fraud surface Highway sells against. Severity: medium
  • Recent integrations (Transfix, Qued, Bluewire reseller deal in 2026) are unproven and could remain one-off embeds rather than growing accounts. Severity: medium
  • Core FMCSA/Secretary of State data-matching workflow is publicly replicable, exposing Highway to lower-cost AI-native fraud-detection entrants. Severity: high
  • Revenue and headcount figures from third-party aggregators diverge by orders of magnitude, making true scale unverifiable. Severity: low

Could AI replace Highway's fraud detection?
Highway's core task, matching public FMCSA and Secretary of State records to flag fraud, is a pattern-matching problem AI could replicate, but its network of 1,050+ brokers and Triumph payments tie-in (as of August 2025) add lock-in pure AI tools lack.
