The call

Pitch survived its own near-death by shrinking to profitability, but it still sells a feature that Microsoft and Google now give away for free.

Pitch is a profitable company that helps people create presentations using artificial intelligence. The problem is that Microsoft (through PowerPoint) and Google (through Slides) offer similar AI features built right into their free or cheap products, and other free AI tools like Claude and ChatGPT can generate slides just as well. Pitch tried to differentiate by adding sales analytics features connected to HubSpot in early 2025, but this feature is too new and unproven to protect the company from being outmaneuvered or replaced.

Why
01
AI pressure: Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, and standalone tools like Gamma. Native AI deck generation in PowerPoint and Slides, plus free tools like Gamma, does what Pitch charges for. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Microsoft (PowerPoint/365) and Google (Slides/Workspace). Both bundle AI slide generation into suites companies already pay for, leaving Pitch to compete on features nobody needs to buy separately. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. A profitable, bootstrapped base of about $10M ARR and early HubSpot-tied sales-room analytics that Microsoft has not copied yet.
What would change this call
Microsoft Copilot or Google Gemini rolls out deeper native AI deck-generation features in PowerPoint/Slides in 2026. Shows Pitch's core AI generation feature is being commoditized by free suite tools.
Pitch raises new funding or announces an acquisition/strategic investment tied to its HubSpot integration. Would indicate the CRM sales-room wedge is gaining real traction and investor confidence.
Pitch expands its analytics integration beyond HubSpot to other CRMs (e.g. Salesforce) within the year. Would show the sales-room analytics wedge is becoming a genuine multi-product moat rather than a single-partner feature.
Key numbers
  • ~$10M ARR (Feb 2025)
  • ~76 staff, up from 40 post-layoffs (Jun 2026)
  • Raised ~$137M total, mostly returned to investors (Jan 2024)
Named risks
  • Core AI deck-generation feature is commoditized by frontier models and free bundled tools from Microsoft and Google. Severity: high
  • No new funding since 2021; limited capital to compete against much better-funded rivals in an AI arms race. Severity: high
  • Sole potential differentiator (CRM-tied sales-room analytics via HubSpot) launched Feb 2025 and remains unproven at scale. Severity: medium
  • Headcount rebuilding slowly (76 as of June 2026 vs 180 peak in 2021), constraining product velocity versus rivals. Severity: medium
  • Third-party revenue data inconsistency (PrivCo showing $380M vs Sacra's $10M estimate) undermines external financial visibility. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is Pitch profitable in 2026?
Pitch reached profitability by mid-2024 according to Sacra's estimate, running lean on roughly 40 to 76 staff in Berlin. It reported no new funding round since its 2021 Series B and estimated ARR of about $10M as of February 2025, up roughly 90% year over year.
Did Pitch lay off employees?
Yes. Pitch cut about 30% of staff (~59 people) in September 2022, then cut roughly two-thirds (~69 people, from ~180 to ~40) in January 2024 when CEO Christian Reber stepped down and was replaced by Adam Renklint, per TechCrunch, January 8, 2024.
Can AI tools like ChatGPT or Gamma replace Pitch?
Much of Pitch's core value, AI-generated slide decks, is now native to frontier models and rivals like Gamma, which shipped Gamma 3.0's editing agent in September 2025. Pitch responded with its own Pitch Agent in May 2026, but the underlying generation capability is increasingly commodity.
Who is Pitch's biggest competitor?
Microsoft (PowerPoint plus Copilot in 365) and Google (Slides plus Gemini) pose the largest structural threat since they bundle AI deck generation free into suites customers already own. Among standalone AI tools, Gamma is frequently ranked 'best overall' in 2026 comparison roundups.
Who owns Pitch and has it raised recent funding?
Pitch Software GmbH is privately held with no parent company, based in Berlin. It raised about $137 to 138 million across four rounds from 2018 to 2021 (BlueYard, Thrive, Index, Tiger Global, Lakestar, Salesforce Ventures) but no new round has been reported since the May 2021 $85M Series B.
How many teams use Pitch?
Pitch claims (vendor-claimed, unverified) over 4 million teams use its product as of 2026, up from over 2 million in 2025 and over 1 million in November 2023, according to the company's own marketing on pitch.com.
