The call

A small, profitable team competing on taste against a much bigger rival and a wave of AI agents that could make scheduling links unnecessary.

SavvyCal makes a calendar scheduling tool that lets people find meeting times without back-and-forth emails. The company has built something people like because it works smoothly, but that smoothness is easy for bigger companies to copy. Calendly (the market leader with much more money and users) could add the same features tomorrow, Cal.com is already doing similar things for free with open-source code, and AI scheduling apps like Motion are trying to skip the calendar link idea entirely and just book meetings on their own. The one thing that could save SavvyCal is its new Appointments product (a tool other companies can plug into their own software for scheduling), but it is only available to a small number of customers right now and has not yet proven it can be a real business.

Why
01
AI pressure: AI scheduling agents (Motion, Reclaim.ai, Sunsama). AI agents that auto negotiate and book meetings could remove the need for shared links entirely. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Calendly. Calendly holds about 25% of the market and $3B in valuation; it can copy SavvyCal's calendar-overlay UX whenever it wants. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Its calendar-overlay interaction and the HIPAA-ready SavvyCal Appointments API give it a niche edge, though both are copyable.
What would change this call
SavvyCal Appointments reaches general availability with SOC 2 and HIPAA certification within 12 months. Would show SavvyCal building a real defensible product moat beyond UX taste.
Calendly ships a calendar-overlay scheduling feature matching SavvyCal's core UX. Would show the incumbent closing SavvyCal's only differentiator.
Cal.com reports market-share or user growth figures surpassing SavvyCal's stated 2,000+ customers. Would show the open-source rival outpacing SavvyCal among the same buyer segment.
