The call

Softchoice survives by sitting inside Microsoft's channel, but Microsoft's own AI tools are quietly shrinking the paid work that channel used to require.

Softchoice sells technology products and consulting to medium-sized companies, helping them pick and set up Microsoft, Amazon, and Cisco solutions. It is hard to replace right now because these companies trust Softchoice after years of working together, and big tech vendors prefer selling through resellers to reach customers like these rather than going direct. However, AI is making the advice part of Softchoice's work much faster and cheaper to deliver (sometimes 70 to 97 percent faster), and Microsoft is building tools that let companies serve themselves, which could squeeze what Softchoice can charge before Softchoice locks customers into longer relationships through managed services and multi-vendor support.

Why
01
AI pressure: Microsoft Copilot/Frontier Suite self-service tooling. Microsoft's own AI tools cut the advisory hours Softchoice bills for by 70-97%, per Softchoice's own data. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Microsoft. Microsoft could sell AI and cloud direct to mid-market customers, skipping Softchoice's markup entirely. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. 30+ years of Microsoft channel ties, 8.5M managed 365 licenses, and 5,000+ customers hyperscalers still prefer reaching through partners.
What would change this call
Microsoft launches Frontier Suite self-service tooling for mid-market accounts (targeted March 2026). Would show Microsoft bypassing channel partners like Softchoice for advisory work.
Microsoft alters partner incentive/rebate structure for resellers in 2026-2027. Would show Microsoft favoring direct sales over Softchoice's channel model.
Softchoice's claimed 50% post-acquisition revenue growth stalls or reverses in H2 2026 results. Would show WWT cross-sell and AI-driven demand losing momentum.

Questions people ask
Is Softchoice still a publicly traded company?
No. Softchoice was delisted from the Toronto Stock Exchange around March 14, 2025 after World Wide Technology completed its all-cash acquisition on March 13, 2025, valuing the company at roughly C$1.8 billion enterprise value. It no longer files as a reporting issuer.
Who owns Softchoice now?
Softchoice has been a wholly owned subsidiary of World Wide Technology (WWT), a privately held ~US$20 billion IT solutions company, since the acquisition closed on March 13, 2025. Prior owners included public shareholders and Birch Hill Equity Partners.
Is Softchoice growing or shrinking under WWT?
CEO Andrew Caprara told CRN on July 6, 2026 that Softchoice is growing revenue at roughly a 50 percent clip post-acquisition and actively hiring technical and pre-sales staff, with no structural headcount cuts since the deal closed (vendor-claimed figure, not independently audited).
Is Softchoice laying off employees after the WWT acquisition?
No confirmed layoffs are reported. CEO Andrew Caprara stated on July 6, 2026 there have been no structural headcount cuts since the March 2025 acquisition, describing an active hiring spree; the company had 1,800+ employees at deal close in March 2025.
Could AI replace Softchoice's consulting business?
Partly at risk. Softchoice's own data shows Microsoft Copilot cut content-creation time by up to 70% and meeting-summary time by 97% in 2024 internal use, and Microsoft's March 9, 2026 Frontier Suite adds self-service AI adoption tooling that could commoditize some advisory work Softchoice bills for.
Who are Softchoice's main competitors?
Direct peers in the IT reseller and managed-services channel include CDW, SHI International, Insight Enterprises, Connection, and Zones. Its own parent, WWT (~US$20B revenue), also competes with CDW. Softchoice ranked #35 on CRN's 2024 Solution Provider 500 versus WWT at #7.
