The call

Veeva keeps growing 16% a year on regulatory lock-in while Salesforce tests whether the 2030 migration window is a real opening or just a shipped product with no customers yet.

Veeva sells record-keeping and customer-management software to pharmaceutical and life-sciences companies. The software is hard to replace because it is built to follow strict government rules (21 CFR Part 11) and switching away requires expensive validation work that takes years. However, Salesforce, which used to be Veeva's hosting partner, has now built its own competing product and is selling it directly to the same customers. The real question is whether Salesforce can actually win customers away during the next three to four years when drug companies are forced to upgrade their systems anyway, or whether Veeva's locked-in customers stay put.

Why
01
AI pressure: Anthropic Claude (via Veeva's own Falcon agents on AWS Bedrock). Veeva builds Claude into its own agents rather than getting replaced by them, so AI is feeding its product, not eating it yet. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Salesforce (Life Sciences Cloud plus Agentforce, ex-hosting partner). Salesforce shipped a direct CRM rival timed to a 2030 deadline when pharma must migrate off Veeva's old hosting setup. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. Regulated workflows (21 CFR Part 11, GxP validation) glue 1,500+ customers in for years once installed.
What would change this call
Any top-20 pharma announces switching commercial CRM to Salesforce Life Sciences Cloud or IQVIA OCE by 2027. Would show Veeva's regulated-workflow lock-in is breakable during the 2030 migration window.
Veeva's Falcon AI product adoption metrics disclosed after November 2026 GA launch. Weak uptake would suggest Veeva's AI layer is lagging Salesforce's Agentforce push.

  • Salesforce/IQVIA CRM rival winning top-20 pharma accounts during 2027-2030 migration window. Severity: high
  • Falcon agentic platform (GA Nov 2026) failing to gain early-adopter traction, denting FY2028 guidance. Severity: medium
  • Investor skepticism over AI monetization already visible: stock fell despite Q1 FY2027 beat on June 3, 2026. Severity: medium
  • Dependence on Anthropic Claude via AWS Bedrock for core AI agent features creates third-party model reliance. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is Veeva Systems profitable in 2026?
Yes. Veeva reported FY2026 (ended Jan 31, 2026) net income of $908 million on total revenue of about $3.2 billion, up roughly 16% year over year, with Q1 FY2027 operating cash flow of $1.13 billion, confirming strong, sustained profitability.
Could AI replace Veeva Systems?
Unlikely soon. Veeva is building AI agents (Falcon, Vault CRM Bot) into its own regulated GxP and 21 CFR Part 11 validated workflows, using Anthropic Claude via AWS Bedrock as an ingredient. Its moat is compliance validation and 1,500+ customer lock-in, not raw model capability, which AI alone cannot replicate quickly.
Who is Veeva Systems' biggest competitor?
Salesforce, its former CRM hosting partner, now ships a direct rival, Life Sciences Cloud (Agentforce Life Sciences), built on licensed IQVIA OCE data, generally available since around September/October 2025, during a forced migration window running through 2030 for legacy Veeva CRM customers.
Is joining Veeva Systems as an employee safe right now?
Signals suggest yes: headcount grew to 7,928 employees as of January 31, 2026, up 8.7% year over year, alongside 16% revenue growth and $908 million FY2026 net income. Active job postings rose 19% year over year in 2025 per Revelio Labs data, indicating continued hiring rather than contraction.
Who owns Veeva Systems?
Veeva Systems is an independent public company trading on the NYSE under ticker VEEV since its October 2013 IPO at $20 a share. It has no parent company and became the first publicly traded firm to convert to a Delaware Public Benefit Corporation in February 2021, with 99% shareholder approval.
Is Veeva Systems losing customers to Salesforce's new life sciences product?
As of mid 2026 there is no public evidence of top pharma accounts switching to Salesforce Life Sciences Cloud; Veeva's growth remained at 16% YoY in Q1 FY2027 (quarter ended April 30, 2026). Legacy Salesforce-hosted Veeva CRM customers have until 2030 to migrate, keeping the outcome undecided.
