The call

Verizon Connect still collects steady fleet software revenue, but its parent is shrinking it while Samsara and Geotab out-ship it on AI and take its territory piece by piece.

Verizon Connect helps companies track their trucks and drivers using GPS and cameras. It is hard to switch away from because companies have built their whole system around it, but Verizon is cutting costs and two competitors, Samsara and Geotab, have built much better AI tools that do more with the data. Verizon already sold off the international business to Geotab in late 2025 and cut one third of the staff, so the big question is whether Verizon will try to sell the whole company, shrink it further, or abandon it altogether in the next year.

Why
01
AI pressure: Samsara Agent Studio and Geotab Ace. Both rivals shipped generative and agentic AI fleet tools while Verizon Connect sells legacy dashboards, and fleets are switching. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Verizon Communications (parent). Verizon is cutting the unit's headcount 33% since 2023 and sold its international operations to Geotab in October 2025. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Long-term fleet contracts and installed telematics hardware make switching costly, so the existing customer base is slow to leave.

Questions people ask
Is Verizon Connect profitable?
Verizon does not break out Verizon Connect's financials separately in its filings, so no official profit figure exists. Third-party estimates put revenue between roughly $607M and $735M, but these are aggregator estimates, not confirmed figures, as of 2026.
Is Verizon Connect laying off employees?
Yes. Revelio Labs estimates Verizon Connect headcount fell from 2,935 in 2023 to 1,954 in Q4 2025, a 33.4% decline, partly driven by the October 2025 transfer of 400+ staff to Geotab.
Who owns Verizon Connect?
Verizon Connect is a wholly owned subsidiary of Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ), formed in March 2018 from the Fleetmatics, Telogis, and Verizon Telematics acquisitions, with Fleetmatics bought for $2.4B in November 2016.
Could AI replace Verizon Connect's core product?
Basic GPS tracking and reporting are commoditizing fast, and rivals Geotab (Ace, generative AI, 2025) and Samsara (Agent Studio, June 2026) now ship more advanced AI than Verizon Connect, eroding its analytics value-add even as its network and compliance moat persists.
Is Samsara or Geotab a bigger threat to Verizon Connect?
Both are direct threats: Geotab acquired Verizon Connect's entire international commercial sales operation (400+ staff) on October 1, 2025, while Samsara reports roughly $1.75 to 1.99B in ARR with 30% year over year growth as of mid-2026 and has shipped more advanced agentic AI.
Did Verizon sell part of Verizon Connect?
Yes. On October 1, 2025, Geotab acquired Verizon Connect's international commercial operations across the UK, Ireland, Italy, France, Portugal, Poland, the Netherlands, Germany, and Australia, transferring over 400 employees while Verizon Connect retained US operations and engineering.
