The call

Yuque's biggest risk isn't a rival app, it's whether Alibaba keeps funding a secondary product while pouring money into Qwen and Cloud.

Yuque is a work document and wiki tool owned by Alibaba that keeps customers because switching their notes and team knowledge is painful. It competes against Feishu (owned by ByteDance) and Tencent Docs, which are similarly well-funded and shipping fast, plus generic AI chatbots like Qwen and DeepSeek can now do some of what Yuque does like summarizing and translating text. The real threat is not losing to competitors but whether Alibaba keeps funding it as its own product or merges it into DingTalk (Alibaba's workplace app) and lets it fade over the next few years.

Why
01
AI pressure: Generic LLM chat apps (DeepSeek, Qwen, Kimi). Chat apps like DeepSeek and Kimi already write, summarize, and translate text, work Yuque docs used to require. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Feishu (ByteDance) and Tencent Docs. Feishu and Tencent Docs run live, well-funded wiki and docs products chasing the same Chinese enterprise customers. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Existing customers have years of docs, permissions, and workflows built inside Yuque, which makes switching slow and costly.
What would change this call
Alibaba earnings call mentions or omits Yuque as a named strategic product. Silence would signal internal deprioritization versus Qwen/Cloud spend.
DingTalk-Yuque merger or product consolidation announcement. Would show Yuque losing standalone status inside Alibaba.
Two consecutive quarters of headline enterprise migrations from Yuque to Feishu. Would confirm Feishu is actively winning Yuque's mid-market customers.
Key numbers
  • ~100,000 internal Alibaba/Ant users by 2019 public launch (2019-12-09)
  • Alibaba running a ~RMB120bn AI plus Cloud capex cycle (2025-11-24)
  • Incubated inside Ant Financial starting 2015-2016 (2019-12-09)
Named risks
  • Alibaba deprioritizes Yuque as a secondary product amid its RMB120bn AI/cloud capex allocation. Severity: high
  • No disclosed revenue, ARR, or user figures make Yuque's real traction unverifiable to outsiders. Severity: medium
  • Core authoring/search workflows substitutable by generic LLM chat apps like DeepSeek and Kimi. Severity: medium
  • Broader Alibaba regulatory pressure, including a China pricing-practice inquiry noted February 2026, could affect resourcing. Severity: medium
  • Possible absorption into DingTalk over a 3-5 year horizon per stated watch item. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Yuque owned by Alibaba?
Yes. Yuque was incubated inside Ant Financial starting around 2015-2016, became an official Alibaba product in 2018, and publicly relaunched in December 2019. It remains a wholly-owned Alibaba product unit with no independent funding or spin-off as of February 2026.
Is Yuque profitable?
Unknown. Alibaba does not break out Yuque's revenue, ARR, or paid-customer counts in its earnings reports, including the Q2 FY2026 results released November 24, 2025. No independently verified financial figures for Yuque exist in public reporting.
Could AI replace Yuque?
Partially. Yuque's core markdown editing, search, summarization and translation overlap heavily with generic LLM chat apps like Qwen, DeepSeek and Kimi. Yuque defends this by shipping its own MCP server and agent-skills ecosystem in February 2026, letting AI agents query permissioned enterprise knowledge bases directly.
Who is Yuque's biggest competitor?
Feishu (Lark, ByteDance) and Tencent Docs are Yuque's closest rivals in China's enterprise docs market, both shipped and well-funded. WPS Cloud Docs and Shimo Docs also compete for the same enterprise buyers as of February 2026.
Will Alibaba merge Yuque into DingTalk?
No merger has been announced as of February 2026. Watch for Alibaba earnings silence on Yuque as a leading indicator of deprioritization, or an explicit DingTalk-Yuque merger announcement, as the clearest signals either way.
What AI models power Yuque's features?
Yuque's AI writing assistant runs on Alibaba's own Tongyi Qianwen (Qwen) models for generation, summarization, translation and diagrams, per a review dated December 15, 2025. Yuque also integrated DeepSeek's model into its AI assistant panel starting February 2025.
